A former President of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigerian COREN Engr Ali Rabiu has been elected as new Deputy President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE) today. By this election, he will automatically assume the presidency of the Society after the expiration of the tenure incoming president, Engr Margaret Oguntala.
Rabiu polled a total votes of 1,872 against close challenger Engr. Felix Tarvihi Atume, a former COREN Registrar who polled 925 to clinch the seat. The results was announced by the chairman electoral Committee, Engr Ali Kashim at the EGM.
The election conducted at the Extraordinary General Meeting of the NSE held today (December 21st 2023) (following the setting aside of earlier interlocutory Injunction against it by a federal Capital territory High Court), was conducted online in line with tradition of NSE. The meeting was hybrid as it held both in Abuja and on Zoom.
Other members elected are six National Vice presidents from the each geopolitical zones in Nigeria. They are: Engr. Joseph Sunday Adebayo (North Central), Engr Felicia Agubata, Phd (South East), Engr Ademola Isaac Agoro (South West), Engr Mrs Rose James Madaki (North West) while Engr Bemigho Ofoeyeno (South South) and Engr Ibrahim Hammadikko (North East)
In addition, six members were elected as National Executive Members with all the six geopolitical zones represented. They are Engr Ndifon Mbeh Agbili (South South), Engr Prof Olumide Moses Ogundipe (South West), Engr Abraham Agbadike (South East), Engr. Aliyu Ibrahim Dutsinma , (North West), Engr Rachel S Ugye, (North central) and Engr. Ibrahim Hammadikko (North East)
Other election include the National Statutory Audit Committee with three elected members who are :Engr. Greg Obiajulu Ashibuogwu, Engr. Clara Chizoba Anyawu-Amadi and Engr. (Mrs) Omolola Adenike Adetona
Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and Nigerian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE), is the immediate past presidet of Council for the Regulation of engineering in Nigeria, COREN.
Born on the 24th of April, 1963 in Lafia Nassarawa State, Rabiu attended Bayero University in Kano State from where he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
For his many contributions to the Community and his novel works in his home State Nssarawa, he was honoured with the traditional title of Cigarin Lafia by HRH, Alh. Isa Mustapha Agwai 1, the Emir of Lafia. He is a recipient of various professional awards and recognition.
He has held some key positions such as: Member, Presidential Monitoring Team on DFRRI Rural Water and Sanitation Programme, Sokoto and Kebbi States, Consultant/Member, House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on the investigation of flooding of the Goronyo Dam, Sokoto State, Member, Governing Council, Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, Kano State. Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Kano Branch, Chairman, Technical Committee to assess the damages/loses caused by Fire outbreak at Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi Market, Kano State to mention but few.
Engr. Rabiu’s has a robust professional career in engineering spanning over 30 years where he has served in various administrative and managerial capacities in the public and private sector, some of which are; the Executive Partner, AR – AR Partnership, Consulting Engineering firm; Senior Engineer, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Project, Project Coordinator, Bayelsa State Infrastructural Development Programme; Project Manager, Hotoro South Erosion Control Project, Kano State, Project Manager, Oforachi Irrigation Project, Kogi State; Project Manager, World Bank – Assisted Nasarawa State Community Based Urban Development Project, Karu; Project Director, Nasarawa State Massive Programme on Road Construction to mention but few.
He has been responsible for, and involved in the design and supervision of several bridges, roads, concrete structures, water supply schemes, small dams, flood and erosion control works, environmental sanitation projects and community development programmes.
He is a former Vice President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, with vast experience in management and policy making. He is also Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), Member, Nigerian Water & Sanitation Association (MNIWASA), Member, Association of Consulting Engineers, Nigeria (ACEN) among others.
