The family of Late Elder (Barr.) Elewachi Ejughanya Ebere, LLB, BL, FRICS, FNIVS, FRVA, has released the full burial programme for their patriarch, who died at the age of 91.
The arrangements will begins in Lagos, where he spent many of his working years, and ends in his ancestral home in Abia State, where he will finally be laid to rest.
It is a fitting journey for a man whose life itself moved between north, and south and , the city where he built a distinguished career and the village that prepared him for greatness.
The Programme
The events will commence in Lagos with a Service of Songs on Friday, 10th July 2026, at 4.30pm, at his residence in Fin-Niger Estate, Satellite Town.
The service will be conducted by the United Evangelical Church, Orile District, and is expected to draw family, friends, church members and colleagues who knew him during his years in Lagos.
From there, the family and mourners will travel to Abia State for the main funeral rites.
The Funeral Service holds on Friday, 7th August 2026, at 11am, at his compound in Abala Ibeme, Umuachilefu Community, Obingwa Local Government Area.
The service will be conducted by the United Evangelical Church, Abala, Ntighauzo Superintendency, Aba Area Conference, after which interment will take place immediately at his compound, returning him finally to the soil of Aba-ala Ibeme where his story began.
The programme will round off on Sunday, 9th August 2026, with a Thanksgiving Service at the United Evangelical Church, Abala, as the family gives thanks to God for a life well lived.
Remembering Pa Elewachi Ejughanya Ebere
Born on 4th December 1934 in Aba-ala Ibeme, Elewachi Ebere rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most accomplished and highly respected professionals of his generation.
He excelled academically from his earliest years, passing his West African School Certificate Examination with Division One and the College Prize as best student in his school.
He went on to study Estate Management in England, and later trained as a lawyer, before he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1982 after earning his LLB from the University of London. He was also a Chartered Surveyor and registered Estate Surveyor and Valuer, a rare combination of law and valuation practice that few in his time could claim.
His public service career took him from Kano, where he built the State Valuation Unit from scratch, to Owerri, where he served as Federal Controller of Works and Housing, and finally to Lagos, where he was appointed Federal Registrar of Deeds in 1994. In that role, he was given the task of rebuilding the Federal Lands Registry, a responsibility he carried out with the same discipline that marked his entire career, until his retirement in 1996.
Away from work, he was a man deeply rooted in his faith. He was baptised in 1952 at Qua Iboe Church, Etinan, and later ordained an Elder of the United Evangelical Church Orile, Lagos, in 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Onyedinma, and their four children, Nwanganga, Ugonma, Ulonnam and Iwueze, all of whom have gone on to build their own distinguished careers, a reflection of the values he instilled in them.
Pa Ebere leaves behind a legacy that touched law, land administration and faith, and a family that continues to carry his name with pride.
The family invites relatives, friends, colleagues and well wishers to join them in celebrating the life of Pa Ebere as they bid him farewell.
