NSE Calls for Entries for 2026 Engineer of the Year Innovation Award

The Nigerian Society of Engineers Headquarters has opened applications for the 2026 Engineer of the Year Innovation Award.

The award is meant to distinguish and recognize, in a dignified public way, an outstanding engineer of the year in the country, and the Society is now inviting members nationwide to submit their entries.

Who Can Apply

An applicant must:

Be a financially up to date member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers
Be a Nigerian citizen
Be resident in any part of Nigeria
Be registered with COREN
Apply either as an individual or as a group of individuals

Application Requirements

Only one application should be submitted per candidate, and it must include a description of the innovative engineering design in not more than 500 words.

Criteria for Selection

Candidates will be assessed against nine criteria:

  1. A record of extensive participation in professional engineering and in NSE activities
  2. Creativity of design and fabrication, testing approach, and the impact of the design on manufacturing cost, quality, or other performance requirements
  3. Commercialization potential and marketability of the product, for product development projects
    Level of local content of inputs
  4. Quality of presentation, including timeliness, graphs, and clarity, and the impact of the design in meeting local needs
  5. Professional integrity beyond question
  6. Consistent work in the professional and technical interest of the engineering profession
  7. Particular distinction achieved in the candidate’s own technical field and mode of practice, whether in government, education, construction, industry, or private practice
  8. Occupational and professional achievements, including positions held in companies, businesses, government, or other agencies

Terms and Conditions

The Society has made clear that it reserves the right to revoke or withdraw any already conferred award at any time should the originality or authenticity of an applicant’s claims come into doubt.

All application documents, in softcopy, should be sent to [email protected] and [email protected], with the subject “2026 Engineer of the Year Award.” Applications must reach the Engineering Awards Committee of the Nigerian Society of Engineers on or before 12th October, 2026.

Some of the Past Winners

The Engineer of the year award has become a novel Award that reward innovative Nigerian Engineers.  It is NSE’s own way of encouraging innovation among practicing engineers who are members of teh Society. The award has over the years gone to engineers who have made notable contributions to the profession. They include:

2025: Engr. Oladele Elnathan Fadipe, named National Engineer of the Year and Overall Innovation Challenge Winner at the International Engineering Conference. Engr Fadipe is the reigning Engineer of the Year having clinched the award at the 2025 International Conference and Annual General Meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

2024: Engr. Mohammed Yusuf, recognized at the annual national conference in Abuja for sustainable construction materials and research innovation.
