The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch, will hold the 5th Ademola Olorunfemi Colloquium on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as part of activities marking the 2026 Engineering Week, Exhibition and Annual General Meeting.
The colloquium is themed “Renewable Energy and Climate Change: Opportunities and Challenges” and is scheduled to hold by 10am at the Olu Awoyinfa Hall, NSE Ikeja Secretariat, Plot 32 Oba Ogunji Road, beside Forte Oil Filling Station, via Pen Cinema, Ogba Road, Agege.
The theme could not be more timely. Nigeria continues to grapple with an unstable power supply, rising energy costs and the growing effects of climate change on infrastructure, agriculture and public health, even as the country works toward its energy transition and net zero commitments. Engineers, being at the centre of designing and delivering solutions to these challenges, have a critical role to play in shaping how the nation responds. This makes the colloquium a must attend event for professionals and stakeholders seeking practical insight into renewable energy solutions and an opportunity to network with engineers and industry players already driving change in the sector.
Over the years, the colloquium has also grown into a platform where national policies on engineering and infrastructure development are discussed and, in some cases, first pronounced, further raising the profile of this year’s edition.
This year’s colloquium falls under the broader theme of the Engineering Week programme, “Transformative Engineering for Energy, Security and Sustainable Developmental Impact.”
Engr. Dosumu Olufemi, FNSE, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, will serve as guest speaker at the event, where he is expected to speak on the opportunities and challenges surrounding renewable energy and climate change in Nigeria.
Speaking on the upcoming programme, Chairman of the Planning Committee and Branch Vice Chairman, Engr. Olubowale R.R, said the colloquium promises to be engaging, with opportunities for professional development and networking among engineers and industry stakeholders.
The Planning Committee, speaking on behalf of the Branch Chairman, Engr. Nimot Muili, FNSE, said members of the public, professionals and corporate organisations are cordially invited to attend.
The colloquium is instituted in honour of Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, and a Past President of the NSE between 2014 and 2015. Since its inception, the event has tackled some of the most pressing issues facing engineering and national development in Nigeria.
The maiden edition in 2022 focused on the theme “Power and Energy Insufficiency in Nigeria, Way Forward,” with Engr. Kola Balogun, Managing Director of Momas Systems, as guest speaker. The 2nd edition, held on August 29, 2023, addressed “Mechanized and Digital Options for Transforming the Agricultural Value Chain as Nigeria’s Economic Mainstay,” with Farmer Kolawole Adeniji, Managing Director of Niji Group, as guest speaker.
The 3rd edition in 2024 centred on “Investing in Cultural Heritage and Technological Innovation for Regenerative Prosperity and Economic Growth,” with Engr. Prince Yemisi Shyllon, founder of the Omooba Yemisi Adedoyin Shyllon Art Foundation, as guest speaker. At the 4th edition, held on August 19, 2025, the theme was “Strategic Cadence and Engineering Capacity Development, A Pathway to Sustainable Industrial Growth in Nigeria,” with Engr. Akintunde Atanda as guest speaker, alongside panelists Engr. Olayinka Abdul, General Manager of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency, and Engr. Kunle Adebajo, Chairman of Ove Arup and Partners Nigeria Limited.
