In her quest to give back to the society and mentor younger ones, three-term Vice President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Margaret A. Oguntala, FNSE returned to the classroom to impact the Engineering knowledge she had gained to University Students.
Engr. Oguntala who is also a COREN Council Member while taking 200 Level Chemical Engineering Students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka on the course “Engineering in the Society- Training to be an Engineer” says the profession is one that its importance cannot be overemphasized.
Speaking on Science, Engineering and Technology, she urged the students to adequately prepare to tap into the scores of opportunities in the Engineering profession. She told the students that, as a result of the training of Engineers as solution providers, the society relies on them to address various challenges facing it. This will, in return, bring them various opportunities in the profession. She added that students must cultivate the habit of self development and familiarize with what is happening within their professional Associations.
In the same vein, the NSE Ikeja Past Branch Chairman, Oguntala passed knowledge to the Petroleum and Gas Students of the University, UNILAG on Engineering Ethics and how to become Professional Engineers.
In her remarks, Oguntala said she was happy with the opportunity to give back to the society by sharing her professional knowledge with the students.
“Although, they have capable Lecturers in the school but its an advantage when students also learn from Professionals who are on the field”, She said.
One of the students who spoke with our correspondent appreciated Oguntala for the knowledge shared and also for teaching the course in its simplest form.
Oguntala’s passion for young Engineers’ development has come through her career and also manifested in her activities. As a Vice President of the Nigerian society of Engineers, she Chaired the Young Engineer/ Future Leader, YEFL program of the World Engineering Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure, WECSI hosted by NSE in 2014 where she provided leadership to the Young Engineers. As Chairman of Ikeja Branch, she sustained the Annual Young Engineers Symposium, AYES, which aimed at bringing Young Engineers together to share moments with, and learn from the established Engineers.
It will be recalled that earlier last month, the students of engineering at University of Abuja had dedicated their Annual Dinner to Engr Oguntala who they bestowed Award of “Mother of Mordern Engineering” for her continuous impacts on their development.
