The Federal University of Technology, Minna, will hold its 129th Inaugural Lecture on Thursday, 9th July 2026, at 10am, inside the 1000 seater capacity auditorium on the university’s main campus at Gidan Kwano.
The lecture, themed “Engineering for a Sustainable Future, From the Spark of Machining to the Harvest of Local Innovation,” will be delivered by Engr Prof Mohammed Baba Ndaliman, a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the university and past National Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, NIMechE.
The occasion will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor of FUT Minna, Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta, while the Registrar, Malam Dahiru Mallam.
Prof Ndaliman began his academic and research career at FUT Minna in 1991 and rose steadily through the ranks over more than two decades, eventually attaining the position of Professor in October 2017.
His journey into academia started long before that, at Ndayako Primary School and Government College Bida, before he proceeded to Government Science College Kutigi.
He would go on to obtain his Bachelor of Engineering degree at FUT Minna itself, before earning his Master of Engineering at the University of Ilorin.
He later travelled to the International Islamic University Malaysia for his doctorate in Manufacturing Engineering, where he was recognised as the Best PhD Student in Engineering in 2014.
Beyond the classroom, Prof Ndaliman has carried significant weight in professional and public service.
He has served as National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and has also held the position of Managing Director at the Scientific Equipment Development Institute, Minna, an institute operating under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure.
His professional memberships span the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, and the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
His research works focus on homegrown solutions to everyday engineering problems. He has worked extensively on Electrical Discharge Machining, and his inventions include a cassava grating machine, a manual juice extractor, an improved wood stove, and methods for producing refractory bricks from local materials, work that sits squarely at the heart of the theme he has chosen for his lecture.
He has published widely across local and international journals, and his contributions to the field have earned him recognition well beyond Nigeria.
In 2014, the International Biographical Centre in England named him among the “Top 100 Engineers and Leading Professionals of the World” and honoured him as “Man of the Year,” while he was also listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World directory that same year.
Prof Ndaliman’s inaugural lecture is expected to draw a full house, offering the university community and the wider public a rare account of how engineering, applied with attention to local materials and local needs, can chart a path toward a more sustainable future.
