The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria APWEN under leadership of Engr Funmilola Ojelade has inaugurated Engr. Kori Shettima Gana, as the 3rd Chairman of Maiduguri chapter. The event which held at the multipurpose hall of the government house Maiduguri on Saturday morning was also used to disburse “invent it build it” scholarship grant to beneficiaries.
The Babagana Mohammed engineering scholarship for girls under the NNPC sponsored “Invent Build it” project, aiming at driving girl child to pursue STEM career, disbursed 1.6 million naira to 10 less privileged girls. The Association earlier in 2019 has conducted a programme where beneficiaries are selected following similar events across the 6 geopolitical zones.
Distinguished guest of honour, the Executive Governor of Borno state Prof Babagana Umara Zulum was represented by the head of service of the state, Barrister Simone Malgwi.
Other distinguished personalities at the event are President of the Association Engr. Funmilola Ojelade, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Babagana Mohammed, Wife of the state Governor, Habiba Babagana Umara Zulum who was the Mother of the day and Engr Muhammadu Abba Sanda, former permanent secretary ministry of works and transport, Borno state served as special guest of honour.

The Honouree of the NNPC sponsored APWEN Invent it, built it Scholarship award, the NSE President, Engr. Babagana Mohammed, FNSE was present, NSE Maiduguri Branch Chairman, COREN President; Guest speaker Hon. Dr. Zainab Gimba, member Federal House of Rep. Ngale Bama Kalabalge Federal constituency, other dignitaries from different walks of life were present to Honour her.
Also at the event, Hon. Dr. Zainab Gimba, made announcement of scholarship of 300 students to be run by APWEN in collaboration with her foundation- a legacy she wants to leave behind in her constituency.
The Honourable commissioner of finance, budget economic planning Adamu Lawan Zaufanjinba, who’s a special guest of honour donated 1 million naira to the 10 beneficiaries of the Invent it Build it Project.
In the entourage of the NSE President were the NSE VP, Engr. Aisha Umar Aliyu, and Engr. Rose Madaki. The APWEN immediate past President, Engr. Dr. Felicia Aguba, the Vice President, Engr. Dr. Elizabeth Eterigho, FNSE and General Secretary, Engr. Chinyere Nnenna Igwegbe, actively graced the event.
Engr Kori Shettima, is a holder of Bachelor of Engineering in civil engineering and masters, Highway Engineering and works with the ministry of works, Borno state.
