The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE kaduna Branch has elected its first female Chairman, in person of Engr Mrs. Rachel Serumun Ugye. She will succeed Engr. Nasiru Dallatu Ummar whose tenure ended having served the Branch diligently after two years. Other members of the executive committee are:

Engr. Rachel Serumun is the daughter of Late Rev. and Atese I. I. Ugye. She hails from Mbayongo, Vandeikya LGA of Benue State. On completion of her primary education in 1982 she proceeded to the famous Bristow Secondary School Gboko before finally completing her Secondary education in 1988 at Ukan Community Grammar School Kartyo in Benue State.
She subsequently enrolled into the prestigious Kaduna Polytechnic Kaduna where she obtained National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 1993 and 1997 respectively. Engr. Rachel was admitted to read thermo-fluids at Post Graduate level at the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State which she completed in 2004. She proceeded to the National Teachers Institute Kaduna where she bagged a Post Graduate Diploma in Education in 2007. Her quest to improve herself and for excellence took her to the University of Cape Town, South Africa where she completed a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering in December 2015. She is currently studying for her PhD at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.
Engr. Rachel has been a lecturer in the department of Mechanical Engineering, Kaduna Polytechnic Kaduna from 1999 to date. She has also had a feel of the Private Sector where she worked with Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited in 1992 as a student trainee, Nigerian Breweries PLC between 1994 and 1995 and Mobil Nigeria Limited as a lube expert in 1999.
Engr. Rachel who is COREN registered is also a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), a member of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) and Institute of Management Consultants (IMC).
Engr. Rachel has served both NSE and NIMechE Kaduna in various capacities either as an EXCO member or on committees. Some positions held by her include, Assistant Publicity Secretary, Financial Secretary and Treasurer NIMechE Kaduna Chapter, 2004-2005, 2006-2008 and 2008-2012 respectively. Ex-Officio, Financial Secretary and Treasurer NSE Kaduna Branch, 2005-2007, 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 respectively. She served as the Chairman Business Luncheon Committee, Kaduna Branch from 2012-2013 and served as the Chairman Fund Raising Committee of the Branch Secretariat building project. and as Vice Chairman of the Branch.
A vibrant member of Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers. She served on the national EXCOs of NIMechE as Corporate Resource Secretary from 2012-2014/2017 and Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigerian, APWEN as Ex-Officio from 2011-2012. Engr. Rachel served and is still serving on several National Committees of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE which includes; Audit Committee, Women in Engineering in Nigeria, Engineering Regulations and Monitoring (ERM), has served on the NSE AGM Central Planning Committee from 2011 to 2015 and 2018. She has been serving on the NSE National Security Committee since 2016 to date.
