The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ota Branch, has continued its commitment to preparing young Nigerians for the future of technology, this time exposing secondary school students to the basics of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
The branch demonstrated this commitment during the third edition of its Hands On Training on Robotics for Secondary School Students, which held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Iganmode Grammar School, Ota, Ogun State.
More than 60 students in Senior Secondary School One and Two took part in the practical training, which was designed to introduce them to basic concepts in robotics, electronics and artificial intelligence.
Welcoming the NSE delegation to the school, the Head of the Department of Sciences and Mathematics, Mr. Akeem Akinsola, appreciated the society for bringing the programme to the students, and urged them to participate actively in every session in order to derive maximum benefit from the training.
Speaking on the objective behind the initiative, the Chairman of the NSE Ota Branch, Engr. Fabian Anyanwu, said the programme was designed to give young learners a solid foundation in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, which he noted continues to shape the future of education, engineering and industry.
He urged the students to pay close attention throughout the training and make the most of the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and build skills relevant to the digital age.
The lead facilitator, Miss Julia Nwaogwu of the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa, took the participants through the basics of physics and electronics, laying a foundation for their understanding of robotics systems.
With support from Engr. Aina of the institution and other members of the NSE Ota Branch, the students proceeded to breakout practical sessions where they worked with basic electronic components and gained hands on experience assembling simple circuits.
Speaking at the close of the programme, the Principal of Iganmode Grammar School, Mrs. Grace Sodiya, urged the students to put what they had learnt into practice. She also encouraged them to use the forthcoming holiday period to experiment further with the concepts introduced during the training and to build on their interest in science and technology.
On behalf of the school management, Mr. Abasi D. I. expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Society of Engineers for exposing the students to technologies that could shape their future careers.
Earlier in the day, the NSE delegation paid a courtesy visit to the school’s management team, which included the Principal, Mrs. Grace Sodiya, the Vice Principal Administration, Mrs. Ohwofusa Deborah, and the Vice Principal Academics, Mrs. Akinyemi Olusola.
During the visit, the branch presented the school’s Certificate of Participation from the recently concluded Honourable Engr. Tunji Akinosi STEM Competition, along with gifts to deserving student participants.
Members of the school’s Department of Sciences and Mathematics were also present throughout the training, a development that underscored the school’s commitment to promoting STEM education among its students.
