The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has witnessed a remarkable show of solidarity over the past two weeks, as branches and affiliate institutions across the country and abroad stepped forward with donations to strengthen the operations of the National Headquarters in Abuja.
NSE Calgary Donates Leadership Books
The wave of support began with the NSE Calgary Branch in Canada, which donated copies of a leadership book to enrich the NSE Library. The book, titled Beyond The Throne: The Ethics of Leadership and the Framework of Governance, challenges leaders to think less about how they are celebrated while in power, and more about the legacy that follows them after they leave office.
The book carries a reminder that resonates with engineers and leaders alike: “The Throne may elevate you, but only purpose will sustain you.”
The donation was presented on behalf of the Chairman and Excos of NSE Calgary by Engr. Babatunde Odunlami, FNSE.
NSE Ibeju Lekki Branch Donates Office Equipment
Around the same time, the NSE Ibeju Lekki Branch demonstrated its own commitment to the Society’s operational efficiency by donating a VersaLink Multifunction Printer to the National Headquarters. The presentation took place on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the NSE Headquarters in Abuja, and was led by the Branch Chairman, Engr. Olufemi Dare, FNSE, alongside the Branch Secretary, Engr. Dr. Omolola Adetona, FNSE.
Speaking at the event, Engr. Dare explained that the gesture reflects the Branch’s commitment to the growth, development and smooth running of the Society’s national operations. “We believe that this support will contribute positively to the day to day activities of the Headquarters and enhance its capacity to serve members more effectively,” he said.
NSE Lagos Branch Donates Desktop Computer
Building on this momentum, the NSE Lagos Branch also made its contribution, donating an HP Pavilion desktop computer to the National Headquarters on Monday, June 22, 2026, further boosting the Secretariat’s working capacity ahead of the larger joint donation that would follow a week later.
NIWE and NICE Join Lagos Branch in Fresh Donation of Equipment and Cash
The spirit of giving reached a new height this week when the Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers (NIWE) and the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) joined forces with the NSE Lagos Branch to present further donations to the National Secretariat.
The presentation was made on Monday, June 29, 2026, and included a water dispenser machine from NIWE, as well as a television set and the sum of five hundred thousand naira from NICE.
President Rabiu Receives the Donations with Gratitude
All the donations were received by the NSE President, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, who expressed appreciation to each branch and institution for their generosity.
For the books from NSE Calgary, the President thanked the branch for its diaspora contribution to the promotion of NSE and the spread of knowledge within the Society.
For the printer from Ibeju Lekki, received alongside the Deputy President, Engr. Valerie Ifueko Agberagba, FNSE, Engr. Rabiu described the gesture as a valuable boost to the Society’s operations, commending the Branch for its exemplary support. He asked the Branch Chairman to convey his gratitude to all members of NSE Ibeju Lekki for their dedication to the advancement of the Society.
Commenting on the equipment and cash donated by NIWE, NICE and the NSE Lagos Branch, Rabiu described the gesture as a worthy Corporate Social Responsibility initiative that would improve the efficiency of the Secretariat and strengthen the Society’s administrative operations. He noted that the National Secretariat remains the operational hub of the Society, where daily administrative activities are coordinated, stressing the need for it to be adequately equipped.
“The Secretariat Headquarters is central to the optimal performance of the Society’s administration, serving as our situation office where daily operations are carried out. It is therefore imperative that it is adequately furnished,” he said.
The NSE President directed the Secretariat management to ensure proper maintenance and effective utilisation of all the donated items.
Responding, the Acting Executive Secretary thanked NIWE, NICE and the NSE Lagos Branch for their generosity, assuring that the equipment would be properly maintained and put to effective use in the interest of the Society.
A Call to All Branches
Throughout the two weeks of donations, President Rabiu repeatedly used the moments to challenge other NSE Branches and Divisions nationwide to emulate Calgary, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, NIWE and NICE, whether from home or abroad, by supporting the National Headquarters with resources, equipment and knowledge that strengthen the Society’s service to its members.
From Calgary to Ibeju Lekki, and now to Lagos, NIWE and NICE, the message from the Society remains clear. When branches and institutions give, the whole Society grows.
