The Nigerian Society of Engineers has entered its 2026/2027 financial year, following the close of the 2025/2026 financial year on June 30, 2026, with the Society’s President, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, using the opportunity to thank members for their support while reminding them of their obligations for the new year.
In a message issued on behalf of the Council of the Society, Rabiu appreciated members, particularly financial members, for the prompt payment of their annual dues and their continued participation in the programmes and activities of the Society over the outgoing year.
As the Society steps into the new financial year, which runs from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027, the President urged all members, associates and corporate firm members to reconcile any outstanding dues and settle new subscriptions promptly, noting that this remains the only way members can enjoy the full range of benefits available to financial members.
According to him, these benefits include eligibility to participate in Mandatory Continuing Professional Development courses recognised by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the right to vote and be voted for at the Society’s National, Branch and Division elections, and eligibility to attend the Society’s Annual General Meetings.
He also listed eligibility for Fellowship and Life Membership when due, good professional standing evidenced by an identity e-card, access to a community of experienced engineers at Branch, Division and National levels, advisory services on matters relevant to members’ careers, access to the Society’s benevolent fund for members in distress, travel discounts through the NSE website, and eligibility for letters of reference or good standing upon request, among other benefits.
Members Urged To Use NSE Mobile App
Rabiu also drew attention to the NSE Membership App, which was launched last year to ease members’ access to their membership portal, notifications and payment of dues. He disclosed that dues for the new financial year have already been set on members’ accounts on the app, and encouraged members to download it and settle their payments to continue enjoying the benefits of financial membership.
The app can be downloaded on Android devices through the Google Play Store, and on iOS devices through the Apple App Store.
Fellowship Applications Open
The President further reminded corporate members who have spent fifteen years and above in membership, and have been registered with COREN for at least ten years, that they are eligible to apply for an upgrade to the Fellowship grade, the highest membership cadre in the Society.
Interested members were directed to the Society’s online portal to access information on the application process.
Maiduguri To Host 2026 International Engineering Conference
On preparations for the Society’s flagship event, Rabiu disclosed that the 2026 International Engineering Conference and Exhibition, alongside the 59th Annual General Meeting, will hold in Maiduguri, Borno State, from November 30 to December 4, 2026, under the theme, “Engineering Innovation for Enhanced Security and Sustainable National Development.”
Registration for the conference has since commenced through the Society’s conference portal.
A Society With Decades Of History
The Nigerian Society of Engineers, established in 1958, has over the decades grown into the umbrella professional body for engineers in Nigeria, with a network of branches and divisions spread across the country and among Nigerian engineers in the diaspora.
The Society has continued to work alongside government and industry on matters of engineering standards, professional development and national infrastructure, while also serving as a platform through which engineers advance their careers and contribute to nation building.
The turn of a new financial year holds particular significance for professional bodies like the NSE, as it marks a period for members to renew their standing, reflect on the Society’s activities over the outgoing year, and reposition for fresh engagements ahead. For NSE members specifically, financial standing determines access to virtually all the privileges the Society offers, from participation in elections to eligibility for higher membership grades, making the timely payment of dues a matter members are regularly encouraged not to overlook.
The President rounded off his message with well wishes for members as the Society begins its new financial year, expressing hope for a prosperous and productive 2026/2027 for the NSE family.
