NSE Ota Rewards Three outstanding Schools at  Annual Engr. Tunji Akinosi STEM Innovation Challenge

Three outstanding secondary schools out of the many who participated at the  Annual Engr Tunji Akinosi STEM COMPETITION have been rewarded and crowned by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE Ota Branch, writes isqil Najim

It was the second edition of the celebrated event sponsored by Honourable member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Engr. ‘Tunji Akinosi , a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers, and federal Representative of Ado-Odo Ota Federal constituency.

The Event Engr. Olatunji Akinosi STEM Innovation Challenge held on Friday, May 31, 2024 at with NSE President Engr Margaret Oguntala Represented by the Chairman of NSE Ikeja Branch Engr John Adedotun. It also had other distinguished guests present.

1st positions went to Anglican Grammar School, Ota with a Trophy & 100k cash prize, while 2nd position went to Unity High School, Ijoko with aTrophy & 50k cash prize. The third position went to Agbara Community High School, Agbara

In her Welcome Address, the Chairman of the Branch, Dr Edith Alagbe went down memory lane to outline the efforts of the Branch at promoting Innovation and STEM career among young school levers. She said that the goal is to prepare them for career in engineering

According to her the event is the 2nd edition in the series and named after the Branch’s icon, Engr. Akinosi, FNSE but the 3rd by the branch.

The STEM competition comes in 2 variants – the innovation challenge (where students are required to proffer solutions to a common problem in our immediate community) and the CBT Quiz competition. In both competitions, students are tasked to integrate the current technology to their advantage.

Alagbe explaining why teh Branch teamed up with Hon Akinosi to invest in the youths said that “A society is strong by the mental capacity of her citizens. Therefor, the NSE Ota Branch is poised to build the mental capacities of our young minds and engage them to be conscious that they are truly the leaders of tomorrow as they are major stakeholders with workable solutions for the future.”

She announced that 16 secondary schools in Ado-Odo/Ota LGA  are invited for the innovation  challenge. All of whom are provide solution pathway to the menace of PET bottles in community drainages.

The event also witness products on the exhibition stand showcased by the students
