On Wednesday 16th November, 2022,the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, NIMechE under the leadership of Engr Mrs Funmilade Akingbagbohun paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Naval Engineering at Nigerian Navy Headquarters Area 10 Garki Abuja. The high level visit provided an opportunity for the two bodies to initiate ground for professional partnership.
The host, Chief of Naval Engineering, Rear Admiral Suleiman El-Ladan DSS, PhD was accompanied by Senior management Officers of the Engineering Unit which include Engr. Rear Admiral Abolaji Orederu MNSE, and Engr. Captain Lanre Animasahun MNSE. While the NIMechE National Chairman had Prof. Oluwatoyin Ashiru OON, Engr. Alhassan Abdu Mohammed and Engr Akpan Udeme Victor.
During the productive meeting, the two organisations mulled partnerships in areas of standard certification and training of Mechanical engineers with the Nigerian Navy in areas of underwwater and robotic welding; Certification courses for Mechanical Engineers at the Nigerian Navy Engineering College Sapele; Internship training for Young Engineers at Naval Dockyard Lagos; ensuring that all members who are Mechanical Engineers are duly registered with the Institution.
Other areas considered are: Partnering with other high profile Organization such as Nigerian Content Board in the areas of training on Maritime courses and Dangote Refinery; Internship at the Fleet Maintenance Organizations at West, Central and East Naval Commands; Establishment of Refinery Technical Training School at Dangote Refinery and Partnering with Rivers State University Excellence Laboratory in areas of Ship design and Construction.
