It gives me a great pleasure and honour to welcome you all to this 2nd Memorial Lecture in honour of an ICON in Engineering and Nigeria in general Pa Engr. Chief. S.O. Fadahunsi FNSE, MON by this great division, Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE). I congratulate all of us for the privilege of being alive and well to participate in this important and memorable programme.
1st Pa Engr. Chief. S.O. Fadahunsi FNSE, MON Memorial Lecture was held in August, 2019 with the Theme: ‘Liquid Waste Management in Nigeria, the past, present and future’. It was well attended and the lecture was delivered by our own Engr. Bola Olowe FNSE. The outcome of this lecture was packaged and forwarded to the president of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) as one of the division’s contributions to the environmental challenges of the country for further necessary action.
Firstly, I will like to welcome the President of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Engr. Babagana Mohammed FNSE, FAng for honoring the programme, the past presidents and Exco members of NSE. Also Chairman of other divisions, branches as well as chapters of our division (NIEE).
I want to particularly welcome the past chairmen of this division for their presence and for their selfless service to the division and NSE in general. I also welcome members of Pa Chief. Engr. S.O. Fadahunsi family, friends and other well wishers.
The Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE) is one of the divisions of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) saddled with the responsibility to cater for the professional development of Engineers with bias in water, solid liquid and gaseous wastes, civil, agriculture, safety, power engineering and others for our sustainable environment. In effect, this division is called ‘Mother of all Divisions’ of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. This is because every practicing engineer has an impact on the environment.
In fulfillment of its aims and objectives which among others are to bring together practicing environmental engineers for technological, social and economic changes, to develop the environmental policies for sustainable development in Nigeria, the division has continued to soldier on in its effort to contribute a reasonable quota towards the development, maintenance, preservation/ sustainability of the nation’s environmental needs.
Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE) has carefully chosen this topic “The Impact of Flooding on the Sustainability of Roads in Nigeria “In honour of our ICON that we are celebrating today. It is going to be presented by our highly respected Engineer, Engr. Kashim Alli FNSE, MON while other speakers will align with the main topic in order to capture and have deep understanding of it as it relates to the current situation in our environment. There is no doubt that the speakers/scholars are up to the task in giving us all we need to know at this time.
