Engr David Omoloye, the Chairman, Kano State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Power Engineers (NIPE), has expressed the readiness of the Institute to ensure increased power generation in the country.
Omoloye made the remark during the inauguration of NIPE Executive Council in Kano on Wednesday
HE said there was the need for stakeholders to join hands with the Institute in an effort to ensure the increase of power generation in the country.
According to him, the country is far behind other countries in terms of power generation and distribution across all the States including the Federal capital, Abuja.
Omoloye added that Kano, Jigawa and Katsina States are presently receiving only 340 megawatts, instead of the 700 megawatts needed by the three states.
He said the newly inaugurated Exco would do everything possible to ensure improved power supply in the country through the use of human resources.
He described infrastructural deficit as one of the major cause of the low generation of power in the country.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, Kano State Chapter of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Rabiu Haruna said the inauguration of the Exco was aimed at finding a lasting solution to the challenges on electricity generation.
According to him, “the issue of low generation of power and it’s distribution to various states is one of the major challenges in the country that need to be addressed”.
He expressed confidence that the members would complement the Federal Government’s efforts toward addressing the challenges bedevilling the sector.
