There was a quiet sense of gratitude and pride in the air as Alhaji Musiliu A. K. Smith, former Inspector-General of Police, once again demonstrated his deep love and unwavering commitment to Summit University, Offa, (SUN, Offa) Kwara State, Nigeria.

In a heartfelt gesture, he donated an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus to the institution, a gift that speaks not just of generosity, but of a lasting bond with a university he helped nurture from its early days.

The handover took place at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria, in a modest but meaningful gathering. Representing the university, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Alhaji R. A. Ebiti, received the vehicle on behalf of the entire Summit University family, while members of the Smith family stood proudly by.

Though the ceremony was brief, it was filled with warmth. Familiar faces and respected figures including AVM Sikiru Smith (Rtd), Mallam Mustapha Abayomi Kadiri, Acting Registrar, SUN, Offa, Dr. Nurat Akinlabi-Babalola, and other key members of the university community came together to witness the moment. It felt less like a formal event and more like a reunion of people united by a shared vision.

One of the most touching moments came when prayers were offered for Alhaji Smith as he approaches his 80th birthday on April 17, 2026. There was a deep sense of appreciation for not just his generosity, but his enduring presence, wisdom, and guidance over the years.

In his remarks, Alhaji Ebiti spoke with genuine admiration, reflecting on how Alhaji Smith laid a strong foundation for the university during his time as the pioneer Chairman of the Board of Trustees. His efforts, especially in fundraising and institution-building, continue to shape the university’s growth today.

Speaking on behalf of the entire university community, students, staff, management, and leadership, the Acting Registrar expressed heartfelt gratitude, assuring that the bus would serve the institution well and support its daily activities.

It was more than a donation, it was a reminder of what it means to believe in a vision, and to keep showing up for it, again and again.
