Lagos State Government has reacted with deep concern to the devastating gas tanker explosion that rocked Otedola Bridge, leaving destruction in its wake.

The government, in a statement issued by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation on Wednesday extended its sympathies to those affected while praising the rapid response of emergency teams battling to contain the fallout.

The government said in the wake of this catastrophe, the state is taking a firm stance on enforcing stringent safety regulations for heavy-duty vehicles.

“The Ministry of Transportation is ramping up measures to crack down on reckless handling of hazardous materials, tightening compliance protocols, and implementing reinforced safety frameworks to avert future disasters,” the statement said.

Authorities have issued a stern call to transport operators, urging them to prioritise safety and align with government efforts to protect lives and property.

Lagos, the government insisted, remains resolute in building a transport system that safeguards its residents and prevents further tragedies.
