    COREN President, Engr. Ali Rabiu to deliver 2022 Samuel O. Fadahunsi Memorial Lecture

    The President, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, Engr Ali Alimasuya Rabiu will present the 2022 SO Fadahunsi Memorial Lecture. The Lecture which is being organised by the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, in honour and memory of an iconic former President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, late Engr Samuel O. Fadahunsi. The event will hold at the National Engineering Centre, Labour House Road, Central Business District Abuja on Saturday November 12 2022 at 2pm.

    This year Edition will focus on Water Conservation and the Global Green Transition. This is in response to the current challenges facing the country. Indeed, SO Fadahunsi Memorial Lecture was conceived to serve as think-tank platform to dissect identified challenges in areas of environmental engineering as affecting the country and offer practical solutions and pathway forward. The event being hosted by the National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, Engr Seun Odukoya, will be chaired by President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr Tasiu Sa’ad Gidari Wudil with a host of other digntaries expected across the country.

    Late Chief S. O Fadahunsi FNSE, OFR, CON

    Chief Samuel Olatunde Fadahunsi of blessed memory was one of Nigeria’s most accomplished and celebrated engineers. In a public career spanning over 50 years after graduating in England in 1954 as a civil engineer, Chief Fadahunsi established for himself an enviable reputation, as Nigeria’s leading water engineer. He initiated and was actively involved professionally in the building of water dams and supply all over the old Western Region. All these dams are still in existence today.

    He served as a Senior Engineer in various towns in the old Western Region, including Ibadan, Abeokuta and Benin, and was soon after appointed the Chief Water Engineer in the old Western Region. He left the Western Region public service to join the newly established Lagos Executive Development Board (LEDB). It was under his watch at the LEDB that the reclamation of Victoria Island, the demolition of slums in central Lagos, and the redevelopment of Iganmu in Lagos was intensified. He was also responsible for the development of FESTAC and Amuwo Odofin later. He later served as the Chairman of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), and later the Chairman of the Osogbo Steel Rolling Mills.

    On retiring from the public service, he set up his own engineering consultancy, the Comprehensive Engineering Consultants, with his cousin, Engineer Femi Ibironke, now deceased, as a partner. The company has been hugely successful. He was the Chairman, Reynolds Construction Company (Nigeria) Ltd. He was also the Founder and Chairman, S.O. Fadahunsi Housing Foundation.

    Chief Fadahunsi extended excellence in academic and professional career to every sphere of human endeavours. He was a former president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a former president of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He was à Fellow of Institute of Civil Engineers, Great Britain; Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers; Honorary Fellow, Institute of Chartered Surveyors and Valuers; Fellow, Institute of Water Engineers and scientists, United Kingdom; Foundation Fellow, The Nigerian Academy of Engineering. For his service to the nation he received Nigeria’s National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 1982 and Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2002.

    Engr Ali Alimasuya Ali FNSE, FAEng, CON, is the President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigerian, COREN the highest engineering regulatory body in Nigeria. He has a robust professional career in engineering spanning over 35 years where he has served in various administrative and managerial capacities in the public and private sectors, some of which are; the Executive Partner, AR – AR Partnership, Consulting Engineering Firm, (1990 – Date); Project Coordinator, Bayelsa State Infrastructural Development Programme, (1997 – 1998); Project Manager, Hotoro South Erosion Control Project, Kano State,(2001 – 2002); Project Manager, Oforachi Irrigation Project, Kogi State, (2003 – 2005); Project Manager, World Bank – Assisted Nasarawa State Community Based Urban Development Project, Karu, (2004 – 2006); Project Director, Nasarawa State Massive Programme on Road Construction, (2008 – 2011); Project Manager, Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP 2) Adamawa State (2005 – 2019) to mention but a few.

    Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, NIEE is the umbrella body of Nigerian Engineers practicing in field of environmental engineering and related works.
