As part of the efforts to assist Medium, Small and Micro-sized Enterprises, MSMEs in Nigeria, the German Development Cooperation GIZ in collaboration with the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) has unveiled e-learning platform on financial literacy and entrepreneurship for Nigerians.

The platform which was under its flagship initiative, SMEsabi is a new e-learning platform on financial literacy and entrepreneurship designed by the The Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employment in Nigeria programme- SEDIN (a programme by the German Development Cooperation, GIZ) in collaboration with the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) for entrepreneurs and MSMEs (Medium, Small and Micro-sized Enterprises) in Nigeria.

MSMEs are pivotal towards alleviating the rising unemployment rate in Nigeria, which has reached 35% (the highest in over a decade) and projected to further escalate to 40%. However, business trends show that about 20% of MSMEs fail in the first year, half succumb to business failure within five years and by the 10th year, only about 33% survive. The chances of survival of MSMes can be improved with access to comprehensive and professional business support tools for the business owner and employees.

Based on the above, the goal of SMEsabi is therefore to equip entrepreneurs in Nigeria with the knowledge to improve their income earning potential, business capacity, acumen, and ultimately make smart money decisions. SMEsabi currently has the following courses available: Basic Financial Literacy, Advanced Financial Literacy, Financial Literacy Trainer, and Entrepreneurship Fundamentals.

An entire course can be completed within 24 hours, after which applicants receive a certificate acknowledged by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and the Federal University of Technology of Minna.

Currently over 3,000 Nigerians have registered on with over 800 certificates awarded upon completion of a course.
