3.0  PROMOTING BUSINESS AND INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

       BETWEEN NIGERIA AND JORDAN

  • For many years after independence, Nigeria relied mainly on crude oil as source of revenue.
  • Focus shifted to agriculture at some point but was not sustained.
  • Nigeria has continued to over rely on oil revenue
  • With advancement in technology, nations have started seeking alternatives in renewable sources of energy, resulting in dwindling costs of crude oil.
  • With shrinking income, successive governments in Nigeria over the past few years have taken steps to redirect the country’s focus.
  • There has been a paradigm shift from oil to other mineral resources that abound in the country.
  • The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development has named Nigeria’s strategic minerals to include Baryte, Gold, Bitumen, Iron Ore, Limestone, Lead-Zink and Coal.
  • The Ministry also has a well-articulated document named “Roadmap for the Growth and Development of the Nigerian Mining Industry” which contains abundant opportunities for businesses and investments waiting to be harnessed.
  • Nigeria is also in the push for knowledge-based economy. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is already ushering in a new economic form – the digital economy.
  • The Nigerian Society of Engineers, being a purely professional organisation, has been more concerned about the place of infrastructure in the country.
  • Nigerian Engineers have been partnering with government since independence to ensure provision of sustainable infrastructure to support economic activities across the country.
  • There are considerable achievements in Rail and Roads rehabilitation across Nigeria, the Power sector is undergoing continual reforms, the communications sector is considerably improving by the day as the Fifth Generation (5G) mobile network, a new global wireless standard is set to be launched in a couple of years, as announced by the Federal Ministry of Communications.
