Immediate past president of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, APWEN, Engr Dr. Felicia Agubata has joined other prominent individuals to receive the Aviation Africa Tower Award with two of the recipients, Dr. Harold Demuren and Dr. Amani Abou- Zeid getting inducted into the Aviators Africa Hall of Fame Award.
Engr. Dr. Mrs Felicia Agubata, who was recently appointed along with others on Board of NASENI Institutes bagged the ChangeMaker recognition award for STEM. The award ceremony took place at the Radisson Blu Anchorage on October 27, 2021 during the 3rd Aviation Leadership CEOs Forum.
The event was attended by aviation executives and industry leaders across Africa and beyond with the objective of changing the narrative around decision and policy making in Africa.
During his address, the organiser, Toni Ukachukwu stressed that the award, which is in three categories is aimed at promoting excellence, sustainability, and healthy competition.. He noted that despite challenges in the African Aviation market, some individuals and corporate organisations have shown resilience and great leadership in the year under review.
The Changemaker Award category was presented to individuals who have contributed immensely to the growth of African Aviation. This is in a bid to foster new thinking and promote healthy competition, originality, and creativity, for sustainable growth in the sector.
The Tower Awards recognise, celebrate, and honour excellence as well as sustainability within the African Aviation sector. the Tower Awards are positioned to be the foremost annual aviation event where airlines, airports, and the aviation value chain are celebrated in Africa.
Dr. Felicia Nnenna Agubata, is an Assistant General Manager Terrestrial Services at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). NAMA is an Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) responsible for managing the Nigerian Airspace through the Provision, Installation and Maintenance of Navigational Aids, Communication Equipment and Surveillance Systems, etc. Dr. Felicia has over 18 years of experience in aviation, project management and communication engineering.
She is a committed professional as attested by her industry and hands on approach to problem solving . Principals and peers readily acknowledge her can-do spirit and team ethics. Felicia has an innate desire to mentor and guide young STEM students in achieving their goals
During her tenure as President of APWEN, the apex association for professional women engineers in Nigeria, she initiated and implemented the “Invent it , Build it” programme in in partnership with NNPC. 81 pupils were awarded scholarship covering primary to University across the six geo political zones in Nigeria. Bauchi, Ogun, Kogi. Anambra, Edo, Kano, Borno to encourage gil child education in STEM careers. A passionate adovated for STEM, initiated SheEngineers in collaboration with University of West Scotland to drive more girls into STEM.
Agubata, a Fellow of Nigerian society of Engineers, is member of Council of COREN ,Member of Board of directors of PEDI, Past Chairman APWEN Lagos Chapter 2013-2014.She is a graduate of Computer Science & Engineering, has a Masters degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (Communication Engineering) and holds a doctorate degree in Communication Engineering.
She was a past Director IFATSEA (International Federation of Air Traffic Electronics Association) African Region , Member Board of Trustee Women in Aviation Nigerian Chapter and an Associate member of UK-Based Chartered Institute of Arbitrators( ACIArb). A recipient of 2010 Women in Aviation Scholarship as well as 2007 association of women in aviation Maintenance ( AWAM) scholarship and featured in 2006 edition of AWAM newsletter.
