How to Register with the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers

The Nigerian Society of Engineers is the apex body of professional engineers in Nigeria. As part of its desire to ensure that members are able to advance their professional development in a fast paced technology world, it created Divisions which are independent and with coverage across the country to carter for each discipline and their distinct professional needs. One of such Divisions is Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Also known as NIMechE.

Founded originally as a Department within the Nigerian Society of Engineers, it became a full Institution in December 2002 under the leadership of Engr. Chief Akintunde Zedomi, a fellow of NSE when in December 2002 at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Mechanical division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers in Port Harcourt it was unanimously resolved that the division be transformed into the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE). The institution which has a full standing authority as derived from the articles of Association of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and is not a parallel body to the society. NIMechE mission in the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers is to propagate the effective practice of mechanical engineering within Nigeria and ensure its entrenchment in the body politic.

The organisation has since evolved with chapters in all the six geopolitical zones in the country and also with student extension on various campuses of tertiary institutions where mechanical engineering is accredited in the country.

Mechanical Engineers who want to register with Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, are also expected to registered with a Division such as NIMechE.
