    Farewell Speech by Outgoing president of NIMechE NSF, Ibrahim Olusola Balogun

    Protocol,
    Today, we stand on a threshold of history as our INSTITUTION march towards enthronement of yet another durable administration that will oversee her affairs for the next 365 days. Today is a remarkable day and unprecedented, a great day really it is in our INSTITUTION. Having acquired so much experience as executive president is not the joy but having confidence in a group of people that are willing to take the baton and move on from where you stop is a thing of joy and fulfillment for me personally; this clearly shows the INSTITUTION still on course towards achieving greater heights.

    Leadership is a great trust, unprepared sacrifice and challenge especially when you don’t have a template to follow. Being the pioneer president of our dear NIMechE-NSF executives, we quickly realized we are the template for generation of NIMechE NSF leaders yet to come, so this has been a major consideration of our decision making. Not about us but about the interests of Mechanical Engineering students in years to come. This is our foundation, our indelible footprints.

    Last year, on Thursday 21st of February at Yaba College of Technology, we were given a mandate, the mantle of leadership to pilot the affairs of the student’s forum of the institution. In the course of our journey, I have learnt two important life lessons;

    I’ve continued to recognize the power individuals have to change virtually anything and everything in their lives in an instant. I’ve learned that the resources we need to turn our dreams into reality are within us, merely waiting for the day when we decide to wake up and harness them to enable us claim our birthright.

    I've learned that the resources we need to turn our dreams into reality are within us- Ibrahim BalogunI believe life is constantly testing us for our level of commitment, and life’s greatest rewards are reserved for those who demonstrate a never-ending commitment to act until they achieve. This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simple as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret.

    NIMechE VISIONS AND GOALS
    To develop young and active engineering minds, foster teamwork and create a network of professionals for the repositioning of Mechanical Engineering in the country and attainment of National growth, we are committed to lifting and getting the names of the institution in gold.

    SHORT TERM PLANS
    To get more institutions offering mechanical courses in the country registered into the professional body.
    To unify and develop all mechanical engineering students across the country

    LONG TERM PLANS
    To be one of the best students Association in the country, in fact, in the continent.

    NimechE NSF Decision making policy
    Our orderly decision making policy has been limited to;

     Strategic information gathering and analysis.

    – Inaugurate four more institutions [FedPoly Bauchi, UNIILORIN, Lagos state poly and Kano state university of science and technology.]
    – Confirmed the inauguration of two institutions [ESUT and IMT ENUGU]
    – Six institutions (i.e OOU, UAM, KADPOLY, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN, NUHU BAMALI POLYTECHNIC and Ibadan Poly) have completed the requirement for inauguration.
    – Lautech, Kwara state poly, Landmark University, Kwara state University, Lagos state University, FUTY Yola, FUT Minna, BUK Kano, Abubakar Tatari Ali Poly, Bauchi and ABU Zaria are all working towards achieving the requirement for inauguration after NSF has made them to see the numerous benefit attached to students membership.
    – Students participations in many programme such as Industrial visit, Lectures, Seminars,
    Workshops, Luncheon and AGMs.
    – Organised the first national students project competition Akure,2013
    – Students’ Mechanical lecture of the year. Lagos, June, 2013
    – Students annual general meeting. Akure. Oct, 2013
    – Students attended COREN Assembly August, 2013
    – NSE international conference in Abuja, Dec, 2013 among others.

    I've learned that the resources we need to turn our dreams into reality are within us- Ibrahim BalogunI attribute all our successes to God and your support. In the course of our work we stepped on toes, please forgive us
    To my fellow mechanical Engineering students in Nigeria, I want to solicit your support for our successors just like you gave everything for us, I hope you will give more to them because where we are is nothing compare to where we are going.
    Thank you for the opportunity afforded us to serve.

    GOD BLESS NIGERIAN INSTITUTION OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS
    GOD BLESS NIGERIA SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS
    GOD BLESS NIGERIA.
