The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, has inaugurated the Society’s 2026 Boards and Committees. Consequently, they have been charged to rise to the occasion of resetting and repositioning the NSE for renewed relevance, resilience, and national impact.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Engr. Rabiu described the event as a major step in his administration’s plan to reposition the NSE for stronger relevance and national influence, noting that the year 2026 marks the beginning of what he called a “defining phase” for the Society. He recalled his inauguration speech where he articulated a bold vision for transformation anchored on strengthening institutional foundations and restoring the NSE’s central role in national discourse.
“Today, that vision begins its journey from aspiration to action,” he declared. He noted that the NSE must not only remain a professional body but evolve into a confident institution that sets engineering standards, drives innovation, shapes national policy, and delivers measurable value to members and Nigerians at large.
According to him, the Boards and Committees represent the pillars of proactive leadership and the engine room of the Society, entrusted with providing strategic direction, policy frameworks, and actionable blueprints that will translate vision into measurable outcomes in an organized and strategic manner. The President emphasised that the task before the Committees is a collective responsibility, one that calls for unity of purpose and commitment.
“…each of you has been carefully selected because of my confidence in your capacity to contribute meaningfully to this necessary transformation,” he stated. He explained that the selection of chairmen and members was guided by the Society’s governing provisions and deliberately structured to harness the experience and competence needed to move the NSE forward.
He urged them to foster focused deliberations, ensure alignment with the Society’s overarching goals, and maintain regular and meaningful engagement with the Executive Committee. “Let your work be defined by clarity of purpose, discipline of thought and actionable outcomes that will guide our collective decision-making”, he admonished.
While acknowledging that the tasks ahead are significant, the NSE President expressed confidence that the challenges can be overcome through collaboration, commitment and strategic planning. He charged the chairmen to ensure effective organisation of their members, insisting that every appointee must play an active role in decision-making. Furthermore, Engr. Rabiu demanded stronger accountability, stating that chairmen would be required to submit periodic appraisals on members’ productivity, warning that members found to be underperforming could be replaced in the course of the year.
The President also underscored the importance of the NSE Strategic Agenda Document, describing it as the Society’s compass and enduring guide for policy formulation and programme execution. He encouraged extensive use of information technology and virtual platforms for meetings, noting that physical meetings would only be approved when there is a compelling need. He further reminded members of their financial obligations to the Society, stressing that prompt payment of dues remains critical to sustaining NSE programmes.
He said the committee must rise to the occasion and play a pivotal role in shaping a stronger, more impactful Nigerian Society of Engineers, one that stands ready to meet the demands of the present and the aspirations of the future.
The key chairmen for the newly constituted boards and committees are Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali,, appointed Chairman of the Electoral Committee; Engr. Tasiu Gidari-Wudil, who will head the International Relations/Affairs Committee; Engr. Kamila Wopa Maliki as Chairman of the Board of Fellows; Engr. Abdul Wanori as Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee; Engr. Mayen Adetiba, as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee; and Major General Obi Rtd who chairs the Security Committee among others.
Speaking on behalf of the committees, the Chairman of the Election Committee and Past President of the NSE, Engr. Kashim Ali, expressed profound gratitude to the President for the appointment. He assured the leadership of the Committee’s commitment to excellence and the delivery of credible elections. Other Chairmen who spoke in response, including Engr. Tasiu Gidari-Wudil and Engr. Mayen Adetiba, pledged to work diligently to deliver on their mandates while strengthening processes within the Society.
In closing, the Deputy President Engr Agberagba reassured members that their contributions had been duly noted and emphasised that the President and the Executive Committee would expect all Committees to uphold their commitments to ensure measurable results. She also expressed appreciation to the distinguished Engineers who had so agreed to serve selflessly.
