In a strategic move to guide aspiring professionals through the process of engineering certification, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja Branch, held an intensive seminar on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Rauf Aregbesola Engineering Tower, located within the Branch’s Complex.
The program focused on the multiple requirements of Technical Report Writing and other comprehensive registration process for NSE Corporate Membership, a status that officially signifies an individual has met the requirements to be recognized as a professional engineer in Nigeria.
The seminar, organized by the Ikeja Branch’s Resource Portal & Job Desk (RPJD) Committee in collaboration with the Technical and Professional Development (TPD) Committee and the Young Engineers’ Forum of Nigeria (YEFoN), addressed the professional transition that occurs after a graduate has acquired a minimum of four years of post-graduation experience.
Achieving Corporate Membership is a major achievement, as the successful completion of the NSE professional examination also serves as a streamlined gateway for registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
The session opened under the moderation of Engr. Peter Ogunbowale, the RPJD Committee Chairman. The program established a foundation of safety and discipline as Engr. Oluwatoyin Eniojukan, YEFON Coordinator, provided a safety briefing on emergency protocols, while Engr. Ogunbowale outlined professional conduct and etiquette expected during the sessions.
The Branch Chairman, Engr. Nimot Muili, welcomed participants by stressing that Corporate Membership of NSE is a career milestone. She was joined by other experienced engineers, including Engr. Olalekan Emeka S. Ajani, a former National Chairman Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, NIEE, who reinforced the importance of this certification in validating an engineer’s competence and readiness to practice. He spoke extensively on the various process and counselled the participants.
During the technical sessions, Engr. Yusuf Abdulrasak Adekunle, provided a practical guide on technical report templates. He pointed out that reports must reflect verifiable, hands-on project experience acquired over the mandatory four-year period. He advised candidates to only include projects they can competently defend during the oral interview phase.
Engr. Abiodun J. Akinsola, detailed the various membership categories, application processes, and the documentation required for the corporate professional examination. He clarified that because the NSE and COREN have a harmonized process, successful NSE Corporate Members are eligible to apply directly to COREN for their Registration and subsequently practicing license. This, according to him, significantly simplified what was previously a separate and complex registration path.
A virtual session led by Omosewa Arowolo, dwelled on the structural integrity of the technical report. She explained the expected logical flow while urging the applicants to pay attention to grammatical accuracy and use proper professional language. She also provided guidance on the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence, AI as a support tool for clarity while maintaining the professional integrity of the engineer’s original work.
An interactive Q&A session followed during which Engr. Peter Ogunbowale offered advice on professional branding, the requirement of formal attire like suits and ties for professional interviews. He also reiterated the streamlined relationship between NSE and COREN to ensure participants understood the modern registration workflow.
The event was concluded in evening with a vote of thanks by RPJD Co-Chairman Mr. Tolu Adebisi.
The hybrid event which comprises prospective corporate members attracted over of 67 participants. To ensure the knowledge translated into successful applications, a dedicated WhatsApp platform was announced for ongoing mentorship and follow-up support for all participants.
