Covenant University, a leading private university in West Africa renowned for its commitment to excellence, has appointed Engr. (Dr.) Atinuke Wuraola Owolabi, the MD Leadtech Engineering Solutions Ltd. as an Industry Board Member of its College of Engineering for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The appointment, effective from January 30th, 2025, is for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of renewal based on a positive appraisal of her contributions.
The official appointment letter, signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel K. Igban, highlights the institution’s strategic move to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry practices within its engineering programs.
Owolabi will join other Board members in ensuring that the university’s engineering training remains practical, industry-compliant, and aligned with current professional standards.
Her responsibilities as an Industry Board Member will encompass providing relevant contributions to meet the evolving demands of the industry.
Owolabi, who is also the Chairman of APWEN Lagos Chapter, will also be instrumental in facilitating and advising on the content of the programs and securing industry placement opportunities for Covenant University’s engineering students.
Members of the Board will leverage their extensive network and experience to facilitate access for the university and its students to key players within the Organized Private Sector. This includes organizations such as the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (NASME), and the Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industries (NASSI).
This will also extend to fostering stronger ties with prominent engineering organizations in Nigeria, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Association of Consulting Engineers of Nigeria (ACEN), and the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
This will create a more robust ecosystem for engineering education and practice in the country.
The appointment reflects Covenant University’s proactive approach to engaging industry experts in its academic governance, ensuring that its graduates are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to the engineering profession and the broader economy.
Engr (Dr) Wuraola Atinuke Owolabi (nee Agbaje) is the Managing Director/CEO of Wurvicat International Limited; an indigenous company in Engineering, Procurement and Construction also specializing in supplies of a wide range of Electrical distribution materials, Project Management and other related Engineering services. She is also Managing Director Leadtech Engineering Solutions Limited. She obtained a B.Eng. (Hons) Electrical Engineering from University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria and a Masters in Engineering and Management at Coventry University, United Kingdom. She also holds an Honorary Award of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering and Technological Development, Honaris Causa, by European American University, Commonwealth of Dominica Africa Operations.
Prior to setting up of her organization, Atinuke Owolabi garnered work experience within and outside Nigeria. She worked with Shoreline Power, a subsidiary of ABB Electrical systems , Schneider Electric among others.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (FNIEEE), Owolabi is a recognized leader in her field. Her involvement in professional bodies underscores her dedication to advancing engineering practices and standards in Nigeria.
Beyond technical expertise, Owolabi has demonstrated leadership in public services and advocacies, using her knowledge to contribute to policy development and community engagement. She is Founder of organisations that are dedicated to the humanitarian and capacity building for aged and youths. a
