The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, has called in all cadres of engineering in Nigeria to renew their practicing licence.
According to press release, signed by the Registrar, Engr. Prof. Ademola Adisa Bello,the “Engineering Personnel that Section 18 (4) of the Engineers (Registration, etc.) (Amendment) Act,2018 states that “An engineering Practitioner who practices without paying his practicing fees commits an offence”. Also, section 18(5) of the Act provides that “A person or organization who offers engineering consultancy or charges professional fee without a valid license issued by the Council commits an offence”
Pursuant to Sec 9(2) of Engineers (Registration, etc) (Amendment) Act, 2018, registration with COREN is compulsory.
In accordance with Sec.7 (4), of engineers (Registration, etc) (Amendment) Act, 2018 the status of Registered Engineering Practitioners are renewed annually. In accordance with Sec 7(5) of engineers (Registration, etc) (Amendment) Act, 2018, Firms are renewed biennially.
“In line with the above provisions of the COREN Act, you are advised to update your license if you have not done so on or before 31st August 2022 as COREN will take necessary action on defaulters by September 2022 in line with the Act.” He said.
The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN was established as a statutory organ of the Federal Government by Decree No.55 1970, amended by Decree 27 of 1992 now Engineers (Registration, ETC) ACT CAP E11204, further amended by the Engineers (Registration, ETC) (Amendment) ACT NO 3, 2018. The ACT empowers COREN to regulate and control the practice of engineering in Nigeria in all its aspects and ramifications.
Engineering Firms and Practitioners are licensed in the following practise categories;
- i. Engineers
- ii. Engineering Technologists
- iii. Engineering Technicians
- iv. Engineering Craftsmen.
- i. Consulting Engineering
- ii. Engineering Contracting
- iii. Engineering Manufacturing and Production
- iv. Engineering Service Provision
- v. Vendoring of Engineering Machines Equipment, Plants and Material
- vi. Engineering Fabrication/Repair and Maintenance
Foreign Firms and their Practitioners are advised to regularize their Engineering Practising Licences in Nigeria with COREN. Individual Status of Engineering Practitioners can be obtained on COREN website at www.coren.gov.ng.
