Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti, ABUAD has commissioned two point five megawatt independent power project and laid foundations of nine other projects at its industrial park.
The Foundation of the projects laid include Pepper Drying Factory, Cassava Processing Factory, Wood Factory, Rice Processing Factory, Recycling Factory, Festo Fact Centre among others
Speaking at the programme held in ABUAD , Ado Ekiti, the founder of the university, Aare Afe Babalola noted that the power plant was initiated to break the barrier of epileptic power supply to the institution, saying the industrial park when completed would boost the country economy and reduce unemployment.
The legal luminary lamented over the poor power supplied in the country and called on Government to address such in the interest of average Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Aare Babalola has awarded scholarship to first Class graduate of the university, Miss Mary Adeyemo who had been given admission to pursue her PhD programme in Oxford university.
Inaugurating the independent power plant, Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi promised that his administration would construct five megawatt independent power plant for the benefit of residence and appreciated the contributions of Founder of ABUAD to economy advancement of the state in term of payment of tax.
In a remark, the Vice Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, ABUAD, Professor Smaranda Olarinde confirmed that the industrial park would turn the university to entrepreneurial hub where quality and affordable food items for Nigerians and for export would be produced.
Also, Royal Father on the occasion, Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo commended Aare Babalola for his contributions to education and society development.
In his address while donating his entire personal library to ABUAD, professor Tunde Adeniran who is the pro-chancellor of the university said the books were donated to complement efforts of the founder to aid research and learning in the university.
In her Goodwill message, the representative of Council for the Regulation Of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, South West Geo-political Zone, Engineer Margaret Oguntala said the commissioning of the power project and foundation laid would positively impact on the people of Ekiti State and the world at large.
Engineer Oguntala explained that it would also boost rapid sustainable Engineering and industrial development
She applauded the ingenuity of Aare Afe Babalola on behalf of COREN.
At the laying of Foundations of nine industries at the ABUAD industrial park, Engineer Margaret Oguntala who laid the foundation of FESTO FACT CENTRE said the place would serve as research centre for other factories In the park.
