    Adopt Policies to Enhance Girl Child Education – NSE urges Ogun Govt.

    The Abeokuta branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers have urged the Ogun state government to support the empowerment of every female child through the ministry of education by developing and adopting policies to enhance girl child education.

    This call was made during the technical Division Day programme organized as part of activities to mark the 1 -week Engineering Programme of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

    While acknowledging that the Ogun state government has put in place many policy programmes to quell the effect of women redundancy in the society, the discussants opined that there is need to focus on the female child from her foundation.

    They called on the state government to as a matter of urgency, recruit more of good and qualified teachers most especially female teachers, provide writing materials and text books, good and conducive studying environments with good security to enhance education in the state.

    While calling for a bridge in the gap between public and private schools thereby removing all forms of inequalities, the body asked for the empowerment of girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics and the provision of health facilities, response to gender based violence, to clean water, sanitation and hygiene, improved economy among others.

    The programme also provides an avenue for presentation on challenges in our immediate environment and solutions.

    All divisions of NSE Abeokuta including Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NiMechE), Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE), Nigeria Institution of Water Engineers (NIWE), Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) and Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) made their various presentations.
