Not detered by the COVID-19 pandemic, Oluyole Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers recently held a virtual, 3rd edition of the Engr. Ifedayo Akintunde Annual Engineering Lecture.
The lecture which was designed to address various national developmental issues, this year, focused on power sector, with two major topics discussed and moderated by Mr. Odion Omofonman, an energy expert and CEO, New Hampshire Capital Energy, Lagos.
The first topic, “Digital Transformation of the Nigeria Power Sector”, was delivered by Engr. Faruk Yusuf of, Renewable and Rural Power Access, Federal Ministry of Power, Abuja. While Mr. Rudi Wiedemann, President/CEO, Edge Meter Corporation, USA; delivered the second lecture as titled: Meter as a Service Business Model using Internet of Things.
This year’s lecture, though virtual, witnessed a large audience from across the globe.
Among the participants of the Zoom lecture were: representatives of agencies and departments in the power ministry, Past President of NSE, Engr. Ademola Olorunfemi FNSE, National EXCO Member of NSE Engr. Mojirade Oloruntoba FNSE, Past Vice Presidents, Engr. Magnet Oguntala and Engr. Joseph Akinteye; Past chairman of Ikeja Branch, Engr. Charles Akinola; Branch Chairmen and EXCO members of NSE branches, Ex- DG of Energy Commission of Nigeria, Prof. Abubakar Sambo; MD/CEO of Abuja Disco,; Enugu Disco Team; MD/CEO of NEMSA, Engr. Peter Ewesor FNSE; MD/CEO of Momas, Engr. Kola Balogun FNSE; Team Afam Power Station; NEMSA and NERC representatives; Eko and Ibadan Discos, Engr. Ali Dasphima Abubakar, Engr. The Engineering Icon, in whose honour the annual lecture has been named, Engr. Pa. Ifedayo Akintunde FNSE FAEng, joined this year’s lecture all away from the USA.
To say the least, the 3rd edition of Engr. Ifedayo Akintunde Annual Engineering Lecture held to the admiration of all committed stakeholders.
To recap, the maiden edition of the annual lecture as delivered by Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, President of The Crown West African Company Limited, and titled “Building Multipurpose Water Infrastructure for Small, Medium and Large scale dams in Oyo State: roles of academic, industrialists and the government” was aimed at exploring potentials of various dams in Oyo State and the country at large to solve a lot of agricultural and power challenges.
Similarly, the second edition of the lecture series discussed; “Economic Development based on Israel Experience : Lessons to Nigeria” The Lecturer was Dr. Joseph Shevel, President of the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel.
This year’s lecture was organized in collaboration with: Federal Ministry of Power, Protogy Global Services Ltd and MEMMCOL Nigeria Ltd.
Abdulrasaq Jimoh FNSE, the Chairman of Oluyole Branch hoped that Nigerian Government at various levels will explore the opportunities offered by this annual lecture series, to partner with indegenious Engineers in solving critical challenges facing our country and he thanked all the participants for their contributions to the success of the annual lecture.
