COREN ERM tasks KWSG on hydraulic structures in the state

The kwara state government has been tasked as a matter of urgency to take critical look at the hydraulic structures in the state capital to avoid reoccurrence flood disaster in the state.

The State Chief Inspector, Engineering Regulation and Monitoring, Engineer Kamil Olalekan gave the charge when he led his team to the collapse of the embankment of Oko-Erin culvert in Ilorin West local government area of the state.

Engineer Olalekan said necessary care should be put in place by state government on culverts, bridges and water ways to allow free flow of water.

According to him, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency had predicted that Nigeria will witness heavy rain this year and called for creation of Area offices for the ministry of Works in Ilorin metropolis to monitor roads and hydraulic structures to prevent flood disasters.

He also enjoined relevant ministries to engage on proper maintenance structures along all the roads in the state to curb the flood disaster.

The state Chief Inspector however advised State Town Planning Agency to desist from approved structures on a water channels in order to prevent flooding or erosions in the state.
