Dear NSBE Member,
The leadership of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has decided to postpone NSBE’s 46th Annual Convention until a later date this year. This decision was made because of the increased concerns about the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. The Annual Convention was scheduled to take place in San Antonio, Texas, from March 25–29, 2020.
Over the past two weeks, NSBE leaders have constantly monitored communications from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding health risks related to COVID-19. In addition, during the past week, a number of NSBE’s corporate partners and several confirmed speakers canceled their participation in #NSBE46 because of travel restrictions. The decision to postpone #NSBE46 was made to protect you, our members, as well as your families and communities, and to ensure the quality of the workshops and other events of the Annual Convention.
Please know that I am deeply saddened by this situation. Truly, the Annual Convention is the highlight of my year, as I’m sure it is for many of you. Although this postponement is unfortunate, it also gives our organization the opportunity to be innovative and to create solutions that bring the most value to our membership and partners.
We sincerely regret this necessary postponement and apologize for any inconvenience it may cause you. Please review your airline’s COVID-19 cancellation policies for booked flights. NSBE is now working through the details related to convention housing cancellation and registration refunds and will advise you about those matters in a separate communication soon.
We look forward to bringing the 46th Annual Convention to our members and partners on the new dates that will be shared in the weeks to come. Our top priority is and will always be the well-being of our members, staff and partner community.
In the history of the NSBE Annual Convention, this is the first time the Society’s leadership has postponed the event. We appreciate your understanding and support as we work through the next steps.
