Earlier Yesterday, 19th September 2023, a delegation from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Uyo Branch led by Engr. Uwem Akpan, Chairman of the Branch, paid a familiarization visit to the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Akwa Ibom State Command, Engr. Eluwade Eluyemi. The aim of the visit was to established relationship and create a synergy between the two organization.
In his opening speech, the Chairman, NSE Uyo Branch, Engr. Uwem Akpan, thanked the Commandant for granting the visit despite the short notice. He went further to suggest that the NSCDC should create new innovations in tackling crime in Akwa Ibom State. He also solicited support and partnership with engineers to reduce quackery, building collapse, vandalization on government facilities, and oil theft, especially in the oil and gas sector.
Engr. Akpan also invited the NSCDC Akwa Ibom State Command to play a lead role in the “Road Work” on Saturday, 23rd September 2023, the work which is set to begin at Daakada Secretariat, Udoudoma Avenue Uyo, an event which will kick start activities for the upcoming Engineering Week, Engr Akpan solicited for security coverage through out the event.
In his response, Engr. Eluyemi, who is a Mechanical Engineer, who had practiced for many years before joining the NSCDC, thanked the NSE Team for the visit and stressed that NSCDC is aim at protecting life and property noting that all the request from NSE were in order, He promised to partner with NSE in tackling building collapse, quacks, vandalization, and oil theft. He also assured engineers that the NSCDC Akwa Ibom State Command has been working in partnership with other bodies in tackling issues like this, the State Commandant therefore asked that necessary information should be given and on time to help respond swiftly. He also promised to provide security for the Engineering week especially the Road Work and Dinner Night.
During an interactive session, Engr. Emem Ezekiel MNSE, Vice Chairman NSE Uyo and the CPC Chairman of the upcoming Engineering Week, expressed his excitement to see a fellow Mechanical Engineer as the Commandant of NSCDC. He assured that the State Commandant will be fully integrated into the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineering Akwa Ibom State Chapter and thanked the State Commandant for the warm reception and the promise to join the Road Work and provide Security for the event. Engr. Nsikak Akpan MNSE, Financial Secretary NSE Uyo, also suggested that engineers within the NSCDC Akwa Ibom State Command should be encouraged to join the NSE Uyo Branch.
Other engineers who were part of the delegation included Engr. Emmanuel Bassey MNSE, Engr. Patrick Andrew MNSE Coordinator YEFoN Uyo Branch, and Engr. Idongesit Ben MNSE.
The session ended with a meet and greet photography session.
