Legacy of Excellence: NSE Abeokuta Memorial Lecture to Honors Rear Admiral Olumide

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Abeokuta Branch is set to honor the memory of Rear Admiral Olufemi Olumide, FNSE, OFR, mni, NN (Rtd), a distinguished engineer, statesman, and visionary who played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s national development.

According to a statement signed by the General Secretary, Engr. Abolaji Ilori, PhD, the memorial lecture, scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM, will be held at the Bolude Oyebolu Engineering Centre in Abeokuta.

The event aims to celebrate Rear Admiral Olumide’s exceptional contributions to the nation, particularly in the fields of education, policy-making, and infrastructure development. His dedication to public service and his unwavering commitment to excellence have left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire generations.

Rear Admiral Olumide was a pioneer of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), a former Federal Commissioner for Transport and later Works and Housing. He was also a Former Chairman of Ogun State Television and Broadcasting Stations.

The MD/CEO of Protogy Global Services who is also a Vice President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ademola Agoro, will deliver the keynote address, focusing on “Smart Grid Technology: Revolutionizing Nigeria’s Power Distribution.”

This timely topic, coming at a crucial time in our national development, aligns with Rear Admiral Olumide’s vision for a technologically advanced and sustainable Nigeria. The lecture will explore the transformative potential of smart grids in enhancing energy efficiency, improving grid reliability, and facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources. By understanding the benefits and challenges associated with smart grid technology, Nigeria can position itself at the forefront of sustainable energy development.

The event will be chaired by the President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr Margaret Aina Oguntala. Also expected is a gathering of dignitaries such as H.E. Engr. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR , former President of Nigeria who is the Distinguished Guest of Honour; Chief Olabode George, former Military Governor of Ondo State, who is the Special Guest of Honour

Also expected, H.E. Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele, Ogun State Deputy Governor, who is the  Distinguished Special Guest of Honour and host of other dignitaries.

Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, Chairman of the NSE Abeokuta Branch, will welcome guests to the memorial lecture as Host.

The event promises to be a fitting tribute to Rear Admiral Olumide’s legacy and a platform for discussing innovative solutions for Nigeria’s power sector.
