Water Engineers Sets to Unveil Dr Adeyinka Sobowale as 7th National Chairman

On Thursday 23 March, 2023, the Valley view Auditorium, Government House, Isale-Igbehin, Abeokuta will play host to dignitaries and experts in water engineering as the Institution unveils it 7th National Chairman, Engr Dr Adeyinka Sobowale.

Dr. Adeyinka Sobowale, a Water Resources and Environmental Engineering expert, is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in the College of Engineering. He has vast experience in public and private sector. He has provided consultancy services for the World Bank and a number of UN Agencies such as UNESCO, UNICEF and UNDP as well as some public and private sector organizations over the years.

An Alumni of the Federal University of Technology, Akure where he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water Engineering Option), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria ( Master of Science degree and PhD degree)

He will be taking over from Engr. Mrs Nnene Chinyere Igwegbe, a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, who has successfully completed her tenure.

The event, which will be chaired by the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Engr Tasiu Sa’ad Gidari Wudil, will go along with a Public Lecture with theme: “The Business of Water: Balancing Profitability, Sustainability and Social Value.” Dr Williams T. Muhaire, Executive Director, Global Water Leaders Group, UK will be speaking on the Theme.

Also expected are: H.E. Prince Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State, and his Deputy, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele as Special Guest of Honour and Guest of Honour respectively. Others are Engr Sulaiman Adamu, Minister of Water Resources and Professor Babatunde Kehinde, Ag. Vice Chancellor Federal University of Agriculture , Abeokuta as Distinguished Guest of Honour and Guest of Honour respectively.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. Williams T. Muhaire has over 20 years of experience as a Business Management Economist, of which 13 have been dedicated to Management in the Urban Water Sector. Currently he is Team Leader for a Water Reform project in Ghana and Nigeria, sponsored by the World Bank and USAID. He is also the Executive Director of The Global Water Leaders Group, UK, Senior Team Leader 2ML Consulting, Ltd for on-going PIPs in Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria and South Sudan to reform their Water Companies.

William is a Honorary Member of Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers, has been rewarded for Outstanding Contribution to Water Management and Science, International Water association (IWA). He is a former Governing Board Member, International Water Association (IWA), The Hague Netherlands & has an International professorship award from the United Graduate College and Seminary, Jonesborough, Tennessee, USA. His technical expertise includes providing strategic leadership,and spearheading innovation and creativity for Urban Water utilities/entity activities. He has also originated Turn-Around Initiatives and Institutional Development activities,provided overall oversight to Project Planning, Development and Implementation in a way that ensures value for money for water management schemes and infrastructure to national citizens in the Urban Water Sector. William also has extensive experience in linking the water institutions to strategic partners and stakeholders and ensuring strong mutual benefits.

Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers, NIWA, is a Division of Nigerian Society of Engineers. The Institution was created to bring together Water Engineering Specialists across the country to collaborate for technological, social and economic cooperation and advancement. It also serves as a platform to ensuring international best practices in the exploration, development and management of Nigeria’s water resources.
