Chairman of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in Lagos, Adekunle Bello, has said the Blue Line Rail project will ease transportation problem.

He said it would decongest Lagos, meaning people could still work in the state, but live in neighbouring states.

Bello spoke during a visit to Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) Marina Station of the Blue Line Rail, with executives, past chairmen, and members of NSE.

They rode on the train from Marina to Mile 2 (phase 1), describing the experience as ‘eventful’.

Bello hailed the government for the initiative, calling for the inclusion of other areas as captured in the updated 2000 master plan put in place by former governor, Bola Tinubu.

He suggested that Ogun, Oyo should come together with Lagos for proper coordination.

Bello advised the state to place a premium on safety of passengers and maintenance. He cautioned against all manner of sales around the stations and coaches.

He thanked Tinubu for Lagos master plan and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for implemention of the project.

On ensuring safety of users, Managing Director of LAMATA, Abimbola Akinajo, said management would ensure the rail works effectively to avoid accident.

The LAMATA chief said Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras have been installed along the tracks, in the stations and in the train.

“We have train detection system that tells us if a train is broken down and train Marshall,” he added.

He noted that the system was ‘completely segregated from traffic and vehicular movement,’ adding ‘the whole alignment has been fenced’.
