Engineers set to celebrate Veteran Engr. Phillip Bolude Oyebolu at Distinguished Lecture dedicated to address Incessant National Grid Collapse

The Nigerian Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers NIEEE, in collaboration with Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abeokuta Branch, in pursuit of its objective, is organising Distinguished Annual Lecture to address the challenge of incessant national grid collapse in the country.

The event, Bolude Oyebolu Distinguished Engineering Lecture (BODEL) is organised in honour of a Past President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ven. Philip Bolude Oyebolu, who is turning 92 on June 16. The event will be the second edition.

BODEL is an annual event dedicated to address the critical challenges facing the country through the eyes of Engineers. It aims at educating the public, while also providing critical policy direction to policy makers, business community and industry practitioners. The gathering, which will attract various Engineers from all walks of life across the country will also celebrate the achievements of veteran Engineer Ven. Philip Bolude Oyebolu and his contributions to engineering and the society at large.

The 2022 lecture titled “Distribution Substation Enhancement as A Clue to Incessant National Grid Collapse” will be delivered by the Chairman/CEO Momas Electricity Meter Manufacturing Company Limited, Engr. Kola Balogun.

The chapter chairman, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, explained that a whole lot of highly Distinguished Engineers across the country have indicated interest to attend the event.

According to him, “The event targets general public, policy makers, business communities, engineers and academia of all backgrounds. The second edition of the annual lecture will afford an opportunity for intellectual discourses and professional networking.

The event is holding on 16th June, 2022 at Bolude Oyebolu Engineering Centre, NSE Secretariat, Opposite Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta by 12noon. It will marks Papa 92nd Birthday anniversary.

The event will be chaired by the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE), Engr. Tasiu Sa’ad Gidari Wudil while the National Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), Engr. Akan Michael, will be Guest of Honour.You can also join online via zoom at

The Former President of Nigeria, Engr. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR will be the Distinguished Special Guest of Honour while the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele is also expected to grace the event as the Distinguished Guest of Honour. In addition, the President, Council for The Regulation of Engineering In Nigeria, (COREN), Engr Ali Rabiu, will be the Special Guest of Honour and host of others.

Born on the 16th June, 1930, Rev. Engr. Phillip Bolude Oyebolu is a graduate of University of Edinburgh where he obtained B.Sc. Electrical Engineering in 1958.

His working experiences cut across United Kingdom and Nigeria in various capacities. In 1975, Engr. Oyebolu left paid employment to form his own Consulting Company – Messrs Molecular Consultants where he was the Principal Consultant and Associates; a firm of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Services. He retired from the firm in 1990.

Engineer Oyebolu is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institution of Electrical Engineers (U.K.) and Nigerian Association of Health Engineering. He was one time President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Vice-President of COREN. He is now a reverend gentleman and has served as Vicar of St. Batholomew Anglican Church, Surulere, Anglican Church of Pentecost, Festac Town, Lagos, and Anglican Church of the Ascension. He is presently Vicar of St. Judes Anglican Church, Magodo, Lagos. Engineer Oyebolu is a foundation Fellow of the Academy.
