A professor in Department of Mechatronics at Federal University of Technology Minna, FUTMinna, have been appointed vice-chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Kwara state.
The announcement was made by the Board of trustee of the University in line with the provision of Summit University Law 2015. he will be resuming duty on April 2022.
Abiodun Musa AIBINU (Ph.D.), is an “AcadoPreneur” and a highly-motivated career driven achiever with over Twenty-Three (23) years working experience in the field of: Artificial Intelligence, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Robotics, Mechatronics Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Industrial Automation, Teaching and Research in the field of Artificial Intelligence, ICT and Robotics.
However, his main areas of research include Digital Image processing (DIP), Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Artificial intelligence and Embedded systems. He received: National Diploma award from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Nigeria; B.Sc degree from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria; M.sc degree from Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH), Sweden and Doctoral degree award from International Islamic University Malaysia, (IIUM), Malaysia.
He has been actively involved in teaching and research activities at various universities since the completion of his post-graduate studies. However, prior to that he has worked with: MTN Communication (Nigeria) Limited; GS Telecom (Nigeria) Limited; DCC Satellite and Networks Limited; Oganla Consulting and Investment (OCI) limited; Communications Associates (COMSAC) (Nigeria) Limited just to mention but a few.
Engr. Aibinu has participated and won several awards at various international and national exhibitions and was nominated for 2012 promising researcher award and best teacher award at IIUM Malaysia. He has also won several research grant awards in and outside Nigeria and has authored/co-authored several publications in both local and international journals and conferences.
In 2017, he was one of the recipients of the highly prestigious Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Research and Development award. Also, in 2019, he was honored with SERVICOM Excellence Award by Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria in recognition of his selfless services and contributions to the development of Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria and the country at large.
He was a part of the team of Nigeria’s Engineers and Scientists who won the first ever international research competition tagged connect2recover Award organised by the ITU.
Until this appointment, he heads the Department, Mechatronics Engineering Department, Federal University of Technology, Minna and the Director, Center for Open Distance and e-Learning (CODeL), Federal University of Technology, Minna.
Professor Aibinu is a registered Engineer with COREN and NSE.
Summit University, Offa is a private University established by the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria and licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2015. The main focus of the University is encapsulated in its motto “Knowledge, Faith and Wisdom”. The University currently operates two Colleges namely: The College of Natural & Applied Sciences and the College of Management and Social Sciences. The academic programmes of the University have been fully accredited by the NUC.
