House of Reps membership goes beyond lawmaking – Ganiyu Johnson tackles critics

A member representing Oshodi Isolo II Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson has responded to claims by his critics that he is a redundant lawmaker.

In a statement on Thursday, the lawmaker told those tagging him a redundant, that being a member of the lower legislative chamber was beyond lawmaking.

He described as false, claims by his alleged detractors that he is redundant in the House of Representatives, adding that at every election year, political traducers accuse political office holders mischievously.

Johnson, who is the chairman of the Adhoc Committee on the Rehabilitation of Nigeria Refinery and a member of House Committee on Works, FERMA and Water Resources, added that oversight is a strategic function that keeps lawmakers busy as well.

He revealed that he sponsored two bills and raised six motions in 2021

“As a lawmaker, we have so many responsibilities to make law, go on oversights and proper representations of our various constituencies.

“When we say proper representation, that is to say during budget defence, you make sure that proper things are done across MDAs, then in the chamber, how are you fairing, if you represent them well in the chamber and you are not fairing well in your constituency, you will not be reelected.”
