Leadership, Innovation and Members’ Welfare paramount on our Agenda for Growth of Lagos NIEEE- Olalekan Olabode

The Nigerian Insitute of Electrical Electronics Engineers, Lagos Chapter have set a bold agenda for the new administration with promise to reinvigorate the institute while embarking on innovative approaches toward the advancement of the Insitute in Lagos. This was a part of their resolution at an executive/ management Retreat organised by the Chapter in Lagos, Isqil Najim reports.

The Retreat, which was attended by the outgoing and incoming executive members of the Chapter, also had in attendance the Deputy National Chairman of the Institute, Engr Akan Micheal, who offered expert guides to the incoming Executive members.

Speaking at the event, the new Chairman, Engr Olalekan Olabode said that his administration aims to consolidate on the gains made by the outgoing chairman Engr Bayo Olusodo, while also looking at the noble projects the chapter embarked on with view to advance and develop them. He said more programmes will be developed.

He emphasised that leadership will be crucial in delivering on the targets of the chapter and called on supports from members while urging everyone to be ready to play their part.

Olabode said that Lagos NIEEE leadership will not be reinventing the wheel by making wholesale reform but will innovate. He praised his predecessor and observed that the Chapter initiated many laudable programmes in the past. He identified the need for sustainability and tasked the secretariat to rise up to the occasion.

During the Retreat, various issues were tabled for consideration of the Chapter’s progress, Old and new ideas were examined. The participants agreed to carry members along through regular updates. They also identified the roles played by public and private sectors.

The Executive members resolved to contribute to Lagos State policy making and governance through partnership and collaborations with identified agencies. They agree that Lagos Chapter needs to double its efforts in this direction and map out strategies to ensure the impacts of the Chapter is felt in the State as Electrical Engineering is crucial to the development of any society.

Among such areas of intervention identified is the Energy sector where the Division plays critical roles. Other areas of engagement include Training and Development, community awareness and engagement, policy examination and project monitoring.

NIEEE Lagos will play more prominent roles in the state and team up with relevant government agencies and private sector to deliver on its mandates. The Chapter will also be collaborating with the Five NSE Branches in Lagos to serve the Electrical Electronics Engineers in the state.

Membership drive and welfare was also identified. The chairman called on members to rally together as a united family and help the Chapter achieve it target goals.

The Outgoing Chairman Engr Bayo Olusode also spoke at the event. He shared his experience and made recommendations for incoming administration.

Members present at the Retreat shared new ideas, and resolved to work in team to ensure the Chapter remains one of the best in the country both in impact on the society and in serving its teaming members.

Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) first came to being in the year 2003 with Engr. Adeyemi Kings piloting the affairs and later by Engr. H. A. Ajibade, between 2004 – 2005. Others are: Engr. C.O. Ayo-Ariyo, Engr. Adegboyega Adeleye, Engr. Michael Akan, Engr. Wasiu Salami, Engr. Mojeed Olaosegba, and Engr Bayo Olusodo.
