LASU HANDS OVER LAND FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PROPOSED MANUFACTURING ASSISTANCE CENTRE (MAC) AT EPE CAMPUS

At about 1.30p.m on Monday, 5th July, 2021, the representative of the Lagos State Government, Mr. Y. Osilaja; the Head of Epe Campus, Prof. P. A. O. Adegbuyi; the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Epe Campus, Prof. E. O. Oyetunji and Mr. S. Asesanya who represented the facilitator of the project (i.e Prof. O. Odusanya) received the Central Bank of Nigeria team and the company that has been approved for the construction of the edifices meant for the proposed Manufacturing Assistance Centre (MAC) at the Epe Campus of the University.

Officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the ATO Group, the construction company appointed to handle the construction work included Mr. I. F. Usoro, CBN; Mrs. F. B. Ekaete – Managing Director of ATO Group and Mrs. R. Emina – ATO Group

Other officials of the Lagos State University, Epe Campus who accompanied the Head of Campus and the Dean of Faculty of Engineering included Prof. G. O. Shonaike – Immediate Past Dean of Faculty of Engineering; Prof. N. A. Raji – Ag. Head, Mechanical Engineering Department; Dr. K. F. K. Oyedeko – Ag. Head, Chemical Engineering Department; Dr. O. Duduyemi – Ag. Head, Civil Engineering Department; Dr. K. A. Adedeji – Ag. Head, Industrial and Systems Engineering Department; Dr. M. A. Adedoyin – Rep. of the Ag. Head, Electronic and Computer Engineering Department; Mr. W. O. Quadri – Principal Assistant Registrar & Faculty Officer, Faculty of Engineering; Engr. S. O. Salami – Deputy Director, Works and Physical Planning Department, Epe Campus and Mr. S. A. Adeyeye, Ag. Head, Security Unit, Epe Campus.

During the reception in the office of the Head of Epe Campus, the representative of the Lagos State Government, the officials of the University and the guests reiterated and highlighted the many advantages of the proposed Manufacturing Assistance Centre (MAC), including training of students and any interested individuals on special skills in the field of Engineering and Technology, attraction of companies into Epe Campus for the purpose of sourcing for skilled Engineering personnel for the industry and bridging the gap between the gown and the town.

After the reception in the Office of the Dean and the Office of the Head of Epe Campus, the State Government representative, all the University officials in attendance and the officials from the Central Bank of Nigeria and ATO Group moved to the site of the project, i.e the site for the proposed Manufacturing Assistance Centre (MAC) at Epe Campus.

Immediately after a brief deliberation at the project site, the representative of the Lagos State Government, the Head of Epe Campus and the Dean, Faculty of Engineering handed over to the Central Bank official, the vast University land meant for the proposed Centre. He (i.e the Central Bank official), in turn, handed over the land and some documents to the Managing Director of ATO Group (i.e the contractor).

Having handed over the land to the contractor, the Central Bank official promised that the construction work would be completed in twelve (12) months. He also emphasized that the project would be of high standard and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would be monitoring the work physically and virtually from time to time.

Finally, the Head of Campus admonished the Central Bank of Nigeria to maximize the assets being handed over to them by constructing the planned, new edifices on the large expanse of land and by renovating the old and dilapidated, but strong former military building which is still on the land. Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering advised the contractor to carry out a good and timely work in order to encourage the replication of the same project in other divisions of Lagos State.

The Head of Epe Campus gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the University Management and the event came to a happy end at 2.30p.m.
