Dr Lasisi Lawal, a top Satellite Communication expert, Others Bagged Fellowship of Electrical Engineering Institute

The Nigerian Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers, NIEEE has honored one of the Nigeria’s top Satellite communication specialists, Engr Dr Lasisi Salami Lawal, along with 26 others distinguished Electrical engineers.

The institute admitted Dr Lasisi Salami Lawal as a Fellow during the Fellowship Conferment ceremony which held in Abuja recently.

The NIEEE is the highest professional body for Electrical Electronics Engineers in the country and also accommodated various specialisations under it.

Speaking at the Fellowship conferement award, the National Chairman Engr Kings Adeyemi charged the new fellows to continue to contribute to the growth of marketing the profession in the country. he stressed the need to uphold a high level of professional standard in the discharge of their duties.

“The newly inducted members are individuals that have met the high standard set by the institute and distinguished themselves,” he said. He added that the new Fellows have distinguished themselves in their various fields and thus the need for the institute to celebrate them. In addition to the fellows, the institute also honour the heroes and professional legends of Electrical Electronic Engineering profession for their contribution to the national development.

He mentioned that the ongoing “rebranding NIEEE” project has yielded results as the institute has been more recognized and honour in the process. A public lecture was also organized as part of the event. The lecture was delivered by Engr. Olu Ogunduyile, MD/CEO Kenol Engineering Limited.

Nigerian Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers, NIEEE was officially established in 1984. It is the umbrella body of Electrical Electronic Engineers in Nigeria with over 28 chapters across the country and thousands of members. It also accommodated various specialisation subgroups like Telecommunications, Power etc.

Engr. Dr. Lasisi Salami LAWAL received his first degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (BEng, Second Class Upper Division) in 1999, Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Business Management Technology in 2005, from the Federal University of Technology, Minna-Niger State, Nigeria. He completed a two-year Technology Transfer Training programme at the China Academy of Space Technology in Beijing gaining a Satellite Professional Certificate in Communication Satellite and Space Technologies and also emerged as one of the best among the trainees.

He gained an MSc (Distinction) in Satellite Communications and Space Systems from the University of Sussex in the UK in 2011 and a PhD in Engineering from same University in 2014.

Dr. Lasisi is a Master Degree holder in Telecommunications Engineering from University of Nsukka, Enugu in 2016 and currently an MBA student with same University.

Engr. Lasisi’s experiential learning and knowledge among others encompasses: Network System Designs and Deployment, Communications Technologies, Satellite Technologies, Communications Satellite Applications, GNSS & SBAS services and applications, Satellite Project Management with hands-on experience on two communications satellites launched for Nigeria (NIGCOMSAT-1 and NIGCOMSAT-1R) as a project team leader, African Telecoms, Broadcast and Communications Satellite Market including Risk Management and Mitigations.

He has numerous papers, publications and a patent to his credit in conference
Proceedings and Journals on GNSS, SBAS, Satellite Communications & Technologies and integration of wireless systems (terrestrial and space-based) to bridge the digital hiatus in Africa and promote digital inclusion and knowledge economy as well as satisfy the universal Internet access goals that African governments are committed to.
He presently works with NIGCOMSAT Ltd as Acting General Manager in the Directorate of Technical Services, Head of Department, Navigation and project manager for the facilitation of adoption of Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) technology in Africa’s aviation sector with SBAS flight demonstrations across African nations. He is also a visiting scholar to University of Sussex, UK and GNSS Center of Wuhan University, China.

He is a Registered Member, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN R. 16,264) and member of , Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE; 19408). He is a UK Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Member of the Engineering Council (CEng; 590976); Senior Member and Life Member, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (SMAIAA 417701).
