The European-American University (EAU), Commonwealth of Dominica, has conferred honourary doctorate degrees on some eminent Nigerians in Lagos. Among them are engineers who have rendered varying professional services over the years and have distinguished themselves.
The chairman Nigerian Society of Engineers, Bwari Branch, Engr. (Dr) Halimat Adediran has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Project Management on the 19th June, 2021.
The President of the University, Professor John Kersey, was on hand to bestow the recognition at the event which held at Lagos Chamber of Commerce ad Industries (LCCI) in Lagos. During the Congregation for conferment, he described the awardees as “inspiring and motivating personalities who have become beacons of hope for a better tomorrow.” he used the opportunity to highlight the university’s achievements since it founding.
Engr. (Dr.) Halimat Adediran, has earned a reputation as truly accomplished and highly respected professional with 20 years of mechanical engineering experience in various fields of engineering.
She started her engineering career with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2002 as Assistant Maintenance Manager. In 2006, she joined a subsidiary of CFAO Group (Sofitam Nig. Ltd) as Branch Manager and rose to become its Area Manager in 2009 – taking charge of northern region operations and later redeployed as Regional Manager in 2015 to oversee the group’s business in the elevator industry. Presently, she is the Managing Director of Doysol Synergy Nigeria Limited.
She is the present Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Bwari Branch, Abuja and NSE Council member. She has preciously served the national executive Council of Nigerian Society of Engineers on four consecutive times as a national exco.
Adediran is a chartered engineer. A fellow and corporate member of many professional bodies. They include membership of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria; Association of Professional Managers and Administrators of Nigeria; Institute of Procurement Engineers; Automotive & Locomotive Engineers; Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers; and the Nigerian Institution of Facility Management. She is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers; Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers; Chartered Institute of Management Consultants; and the Chartered Institute of Finance and Control of Nigeria.
She has represented and served the engineering family in several capacities both locally and internationally and has won over 30 awards within and outside the engineering profession. These include the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Abuja Chapter’s Award for Outstanding Service, National Honors Award for Dedicated Service, Chairman’s Merit Award; Outstanding CIFC Fellow Honors award; Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)’s Presidential award for Outstanding Contribution to Engineering Services, Leadership Excellence Award, Ambassadorial Award, Award of Excellence in Mechanical Engineering Services, Award for Dedicated Services to the Society, Award for Outstanding Representation in the Engineering Professional Bodies; CED Magazine’s Professional Women of the Year Award, and Leadership Award for Outstanding Professional in the Nigerian construction Industry, among others.
Adediran is widely travelled, had delivered technical papers at various fora and attended many professional conferences, seminars and workshops both locally and internationally – mainly in West Africa, America, Europe and Asia. She is married to a banker and blessed with children. She speaks Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba languages fluently. Her hubbies includes travelling and listening to news.
Other distinguished Nigerians were also honoured at the event are Engr. Osaro Odise, Engr Sabastian Mamsa.
