NSE to partner Ogun govt. in providing dividend of governance – Olonade

The Abeokuta branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers has expressed readiness to partner Ogun state government in transforming the gateway state.

Engineer Kolawole Adisa Olonade made this known during his inauguration as the 15th Chairman of the society and induction of new corporate members.

“I look forward to seeing our branch being consulted by the government before taking any decision that has direct knobby on engineering and engineers. We shall be partners in progress with the state government.”

“We will collaborate with lawmakers so that we can be active in legislative functions, as we plan not to be on-lookers, but active players in policy making in the state.”

While admonishing the newly inducted members, National President of the society, Engr. Babagana Mohammed who was represented at the event said: ”They have to be good ambassadors of the profession and they must by all means represent us well. We want them to uphold that integrity. Inducting them as members means they have to live above board to continue to contribute to the development of humanity.”

Earlier, Engr. K. A Adebiyi in his titled, “Covid-19 Pandemic – Repositioning Engineers for the Nation’s Economic recovery plan” says engineering is key to Nigeria’s recovery from the pandemic.

“The technology sector is a key driver of nation’s economic competitiveness on the global stage and will form an important part Nation’s recovery post Covid-19.”

He however urged government at all level to stimulate the economy by preventing collapse, promote manufacturing and local production.

Wife of Oyo State deputy governor charged engineers to ensure that their output complies with globally accepted quality standards, as the would open up more opportunities for them in the practice of their profession.

The event climaxed with the conferment of awards on notable personalities for their outstanding contributions to the development of engineering in Ogun state and Nigeria as a whole. Award were given to best three schools in the Engineering quiz competition for selected schools in Abeokuta.

The induction and inauguration of new exco was part of activities to mark the 2021 engineering week of the branch.
