A Former President of Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, APWEN, Engr Dr. Felicia Agubata has advised engineers to watch their stress level and ensure they also take control of their thoughts in a bid to live healthy and balanced life.
Agubata made this call while making a presentation titled “Stress management” during the April 2021 Online technical session organised by the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) Abeokuta Chapter on Sunday.
Agubata noted that while stress is common these days, professionals must learn to manage it. she highlighted types of stressors, causes and symptom and, how to manage them.
She explained that some activities such as regular exercises, having enough sleeps, healthy foods etc are essential part of stress management and healthy living. She added that having a strong positive attitude also goes a long way in helping manage stress level. She noted however that one should know when he is overwhelmed and seek professional help instead of allowing the stress level to take control.
“Control your distractions, let go of the past, support thoughtful work, recognize when you are overwhelmed and seek help were advised as strategies of managing stress at work place” she said.
“Stress is everywhere and we just have to deal with it properly. So you have to identify its triggers immediately. Doing so can help you find solutions to fight stress. However, if you think stress persists after doing self help, ask for professional help as soon as you can”, Agubata concluded at the well – attended online session.

Dr. Ebierin Otuaro, ; Former BOT of NSE and past president of APWEN, Engr. Dr. Patricia Opene-Odili; NSE Vice President, Engr. Adeniran Felix Ibitoye (Kilomodemo), NIEEE National Chairman, Engr. Adeyemi Kings, ; NSE Apapa Past Chairman, Engr. Sunny Ejeje also shared their perspectives during the event and commended the Guest Speaker, Dr. Agubata for the insightful presentation. They advised professionals to take their health serious because health is wealth.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Abeokuta Chairman of NIEEE, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, FNIEEE said Abeokuta Chapter has given utmost priority to the welfare of her members, reason for the decision to educate her members on stress management.
