Residents of Arepo, Magboro and other neighbouring communities in Ogun State are now free from tension as the gas pipeline leakage on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been stopped.
The leakage was stopped about an hour after the intervention of officials of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) as first responders at the scene.
Shortly after the arrival of the LASEMA team, the Nigerian Gas Marketing Company mobilised specialists to commence repair work on the pipeline.
The highway is currently open for commuters, however supplies of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) into Lagos will commence immediately repairs are concluded on the ruptured pipeline.
The LASEMA clarified that the accidental damage was caused by the Julius Berger crew doing construction works on the highway.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA), the Gas Marketing Company is presently considering actions against Julius Berger to serve as a deterrent as this incident was the second caused by the construction company.
The leakage started in the early hours of Wednesday, December 16, which caused panic as many residents of the Forthright Gardens Estate, Arepo vacated their apartments.
