NIMechE Pays Courtesy Visit to IMechE Headquarters; As both bodies appraised institutional collaborations

On Wednesday, 4th March 2020, the Chairman, NIMechE Collaboration and International Relations Committee Engr. Dr. Robinson I. Ejilah, and a Member of the Committee, Engr. Osazoduwa Agboneni, paid a courtesy visit to No. 1 Birdcage Walk Office of IMechE, UK.

Dr. Ejilah and his team were warmly received by the IMechE International Executive, Ms Mary Newton at the Institution’s iconic library. The leader of the team, conveyed the message of goodwill to the IMechE leadership on behalf the National Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Engr. Prof. Mohammed B. Ndaliman, FNIMechE, and the entire members of the National Council. He informed Ms Newton, that the mission of the visit was to further explore ways to deepen the professional relationship between NIMechE and IMechE, as both organizations seek to bring mechanical engineering to the center of society.

He observed that the existing collaboration between the Nigerian Chapter of the organization is yielding results. It has brought about the participation of the NIMechE Student Chapters in the National Heat of the Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) Competition in the 2018 and 2019 professional years. He also noted that this very important partnership has in no small measure impacted positively on the quality of the 2019 International Conference and AGM, in areas of continuing professional education, and human capacity development of young mechanical engineers and students in Nigeria.

Dr Ejilah, thanked the IMechE President for being of tremendous support to the Nigerian Chapter of IMechE, and noted that his support has enabled IMechE- Nigeria assemble a formidable team to participate in the forthcoming 2020 formula mechanical engineering student event. In his words, the leader of the NIMechE delegation observed that the activities of IMechE-UK in Nigeria are stimulating renewed interest of young engineers to participate in professional mechanical engineering activities with a consequent growth in membership, and those who seek to charter as engineers with the engineering council.

While we look forward to further collaboration in other areas of common interest in the coming months and years, we are also happy to inform the leadership of IMechE that NIMechE have decided to extend the following offers to your organization. Amongst others this include the co-optation of IMechE’s representative into NIMechE national council to further deepen the relationship between both organizations, and we also hope your organization will reciprocate same gesture towards us.

Engr. Robinson Ejilah also sought IMechE support to link up NIMechE national library to your international library services and resources, and also assist in the periodic publications of NIMechE engineering journals, and proceedings to bridge the knowledge gap.

Ms Mary Newton, in her response on behalf of the IMechE President, Engr. Joe McGeough, expressed her delight over this well thought out visit. She noted that the President would have been glad to receive the NIMechE delegation, if it were not for his overriding official engagements. She thanked the delegation for making out time for this important visit and promised to adequately brief the president with the highlight od the meeting as IMechE look towards an enduring professional relationship with NIMechE.

Dr Robinson I. Ejilah at the end of the meeting also presented the IMechE President a hard copy of NIMechE’s 2019 conference proceeding and bag as memorabilia on this very important visit.
