In line with her objective to encourage engineering studies amongst female students in Nigeria, the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Abeokuta Chapter under the able and dynamic leadership of Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, presented cheques to the best 6 female secondary school students today 13th January, 2020 at NSE Abeokuta Secretariat, Opposite OOPL, Abeokuta.
The promise which was fulfilled today was earlier made during the APWEN Abeokuta Quiz competition organised in honour of the Investiture of the 2nd Chapter Chairman, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, held on the 13th November, 2019 where the best 6 female secondary school students were carefully selected.
The name of the students that benefitted from the programme includes, Ajayi Sekinat Taiwo and Ajayi Toheebat Kehinde – the brilliant twins from Salawu Abiola Comprehensive High School Osiele Abeokuta (1st Position); Salami Rofia Abosede and Ayinde Barakat Adebimpe of Methodist High School Ogbe, Abeokuta (2nd position); Ibrahim Yusiroh Oluwakemi and Adekoya Oluwadarasimi Abimbola of St. Peters College Abeokuta (3rd Position).
The scholarship award which was fully sponsored by the Abeokuta Chapter of Assocation of Professional Women Engineers of Nigerian (APWEN), was majorly for the payment of WAEC fees of the students among other things.
Presenting the Cheques, Engr. Mrs. M.O.Agboola, FNSE admonished female students to always strive for the best in their studies. The parents and teachers of the beneficiaries appreciated APWEN Abeokuta for the initiative as they were extremely happy with the award.
Highlight of the event was the introduction of each students to their respective mentors.
In attendance were, members of the APWEN Abeokuta Quiz Competition Organising Committee, the guest lecturer at the Investiture, Engr. Dr. Funmi Alayaki, Representative of NSE Abeokuta Branch Chairman and distinguished members of APWEN Abeokuta Chapter.
