APWEN Lagos ushers in Afolayan era as Laolu-Aisida rounded off tenure with loud ovation

The 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Lagos Chapter was held at Ralph Alabi Engineering Centre, Agege – Ogba, Lagos State last month on Thursday, 28th November 2019.

The annual AGM was also accompanied by Public Lecture with theme: “Integrated Infrastructure Development: Beyond the Professional Barriers.”

At the Annual General Meeting the outgoing Chair of the chapter, Engr. Mrs Olaolu Adedapo-Aisida, presented her administration scorecard. Among them are.

1. Organisation of training and workshop to help upgrade the skills and practice of the Engineering of members.
2. Mentoring programmes for Female graduate engineers and collaborations with various organizations to empower girls in secondary and tertiary institutions
3. Scholarship Awards to students.
4. Establishment of deeper relationship with the public and private sector.
5. Career talks across various Secondary Schools in Lagos.
6. Development of database for chapter members.
7. More team bonding and retreats among professional women to assist in helping them maximise their roles in society and also cope with challenges both at home and at work. It also encourage deeper cooperation among the women engineers.

8. The administration of Engr Adedapo-Aisida also vigorously pursued active participation of women in leadership and politics while also mounting supports for each members who show desire to serve.

At the end of the presentation, she received commendation by members and elders for her leadership in the saddle.

The Annual General Meeting of APWEN Lagos held at Ralph Alabi Engineering Centre was a hugely successful outing.

The election into various offices produced a new chairman in person of Engr Mary Afolayan and other new executive committee members. She will pilot the affairs of the Association in the next two years.

Engr Afolayan is an electrical engineer. she holds master degree in Business Administration, Management and Operations from University of South Wales and Bachelor degress in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from University of Ilorin. She is a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers and also Nigerian Institution of Electrical Electronic Engineering.
