The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) has engaged the services of Engr. Akpan Udeme Victor as its new Acting Executive Secretary. The letter of offer of appointment released by the National Chairman comes with a probationary period of Six months with effect from 1st March 2019. The appointment was made on the recommendation of the NIMechE Executive Secretary Search Committee in line with the resolution of the 2018 NIMechE Annual General Meeting mandating the National Chairman to identify prospective candidate(s) for employment for the position of Acting Executive Secretary, pending when NIMechE is prepared to make a substantive appointment.
Engr. Akpan Udeme Victor hails from Ntenge Akana Village, ObioAkpa in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State. He holds a B.Eng Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State in 2003. He was an ELF Petroleum Nigeria Limited Undergraduate Scholar. At, the moment , he is putting finishing touches to his final thesis for the award of a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Energy Studies option) at the University of Agriculture Makurdi, Benue State.
He had his first working experience as a National Youth Service Corps member (NYSC) with the Projects Engineering Department, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Abuja from 2009 to 2010. He was involved in the collation of project status reports of various NNPC Projects, such as; Escravos tank farm works, Pollution Control Center in Warri, NPDC office construction projects in Benin, and Rehabilitation of Ruston Diesel Generators at Abuja. He had a brief stint with a private engineering consulting firm “Toju End Nigeria Limited” based in Abuja as a Project Engineer. He was also involved in the design of energy systems, design and installation of solar street lights, maintenance and supervision of building projects between 2011-2013, and Bionica Technologies (W.A) Company Limited, as Project Engineer in 2017.
Engr. Akpan has several seminar/conference papers to his credit. He is a member of the following professional bodies among which are: COREN Registered Engineer (No: R36721); Corporate Member, Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (No: A00933), Corporate Member, Nigerian Institution of Facilities Engineers; Corporate Member, Nigerian Institution of Power Engineers; Corporate Member, Solar Energy Society of Nigeria (MSESN 866-2017); Corporate Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE No: 41415); Member, Nigeria institute of Management (No: 185577); and Associate Member, Institute of Public Management.
The new Acting Executive Secretary who also remains an active member of NIMechE Abuja Chapter, will be overseeing the running of the Secretariat of NIMechE for the period of his appointment.
